Professor Brock-Petroshius Receives Russell Sage Grant
Congratulations to SSW Assistant Professor Kristen Brock-Petroshius, PhD, MSW, who received one of 29 research grants furnished by the Russell Sage Foundation this year.
Dr. Brock-Petroshius and colleagues at Cornell University will evaluate class- and race-based messaging strategies to assess their effectiveness and better understand how racialized policy issues are communicated.
“Dominant political advice suggests that explicitly discussing race in policy debates creates public backlash, leading many campaigns to default to ‘race-neutral’ messaging,” said Dr. Brock-Petroshius.
“My co-principal investigators and I wanted to challenge this paradigm by empirically testing whether longer-form, nuanced messaging can build support for equity policies across diverse communities without triggering backlash.”

Join GSG on World Mental Health Day for a 45-minute beginner-friendly ride at CycleBar Woodbury. The event is an opportunity to connect with yourself and others while raising funds for Pal-O-Mine Equestrian, a nonprofit organization providing therapeutic and educational services across Long Island communities.
