CAMPBELL RIVER: Bob Bray announces that the vote-by-mail convenience offered to all voters, so they could choose to stay at home and vote in their home riding without mingling with other voters at their local polling station, was taken up by so many that the counting process caused Elections Canada to delay the announcement of complete results until 7 days after Election Day.
Vote-by-Mail Convenience Delays Canadian Results
Elections Canada staff worked every day after Election Day to count the vote-by-mail ballots, staying at it until late Friday evening, late on Saturday evening and through the afternoon on Sunday.

As of Saturday evening the count for 334 ridings was complete.

The count for the remaining 4 ridings was completed on Sunday.

The completed counts will be announced today, Monday, September 27th.

The vote-by-mail procedure is ordinarily used by 50,000 out-of-town voters and 150,000 out-of-country voters. These votes are counted in Ottawa.

For this election the vote-by-mail procedure was made available for in-town voters and these votes are counted in each riding.

This extension of the vote-by-mail procedure was a convenience to accommodate the ChiCom-19 pandemic so that voters could skip the usual mingling with neighbours at their local polling station.

About 800,000 voters used the vote-by-mail procedure to vote from home in their local riding.

The counting of these in-town vote-by-mail ballots was a new task for the riding poll workers and took 7 days to complete.

On the one hand the in-town vote-by-mail was a convenience, on the other hand its counting process delayed the announcement of complete election results for 7 days after Election Day.
