The Latest Lux News!

Hello Friends,

Join us for our upcoming Town Hall Meet and Greet at the Gilchrist Park Pavilion on Saturday, October 14th, from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm. It's a perfect opportunity to savor the sunset and indulge in some delightful desserts. We extend a warm welcome to everyone to come and meet with me.

I feel compelled to address the issue of vandalism of the Lux campaign business signs since I have been receiving so many questions about this.

My statement to the news reporter: “It is very unfortunate that the Kuharski Campaign would resort to such actions. We placed the sign in good faith with permission of the tenant. Since we have had multiple other signs damaged and lost, we felt it necessary to report this vandalism in order to protect ourselves from future harassment. These actions display a significant lack of integrity and one who would do such a thing has no business being in public office. The law-abiding citizens of our city deserve better.”

In my opponent’s statement to the police, it says while they were taking the sign down the post started to bend. Instead of stopping, he responded "screw it" and continued the vandalism. The posts supporting the business sign are sturdy and not easily bent without brute force. If he noticed the posts were bending, he should have immediately ceased his actions and contacted the Lux team, offering an apology for his attempt to remove the sign, even if it was “unintentionally” damaged in the process.

Had my opponent believed the sign should not have been there (even though we had permission from the shop owner), he had the option to call the Lux team to have it removed. Instead, he chose to take matters into his own hands and vandalize the sign.

If he was honest, he should have readily admitted his wrongdoing instead of labeling it a "misunderstanding." If he had expressed remorse and taken full responsibility for his actions, it wouldn’t have been a big deal. Unfortunately, he chose to portray himself as a “victim”, alleging that the situation of his vandalism is being exploited for political purposes.

Furthermore, it is true that my opponent faced second-degree misdemeanor charges along with his wife, and both were given the option of a diversion program. To enter this program, one must admit guilt to the alleged offense. I agreed to them having the diversion program as an alternative to formal charges.

GOOD NEWS! The owner of the shop where the incident occurred requested that the largest Lux

sign we had be placed back on the property.

We were more than willing to comply

with this request.

Firefighters' Endorsement

Now, let's discuss the firefighters' endorsement displayed on my opponent's signs.

It's important to acknowledge that the firefighters have a union based out of Venice that encompasses several counties. Their policy dictates that they endorse the incumbent if that incumbent, during their time in office, took actions that were deemed beneficial to the firefighters.

While the union did express that they believed I was a worthy candidate for their endorsement, they must adhere to their policy. I have respectfully urged them to reevaluate this policy, as it seems to restrict their ability to endorse candidates who align with their values and priorities.

I want to make it crystal clear that I wholeheartedly support our firefighters and police officers, both now and always. These professions are close to my heart, as I have family members and many friends who serve in these vital roles, and I am immensely proud of their contributions to our community.

Lastly, I want to express my appreciation for receiving the endorsement of the Republican Party. It's a significant milestone, as it has been a decade since they last offered an endorsement in a local election.

The Republican Party's endorsement highlights “Debi Lux has been consistent in her messaging and her concerns mirror those of the residents. She supports incremental and natural growth, but it must be in balance with the current small-town feel of Punta Gorda. The Republican Party stands with the citizens of Punta Gorda, and we proudly offer our full endorsement Dr. Debi Lux.”

I would like to clarify that the Republican Party NEVER offered my opponent an endorsement. Both of us were under consideration, but it appears that, perhaps after an underwhelming performance during a debate, he may have realized that he would not receive the endorsement he had hoped for.

It's crucial to note that this is a nonpartisan race, and I wholeheartedly welcome endorsements from the Independent and Democratic Party as well.

Our Lux team comprises members from all political backgrounds, united in our dedication to fostering fiscal and responsible growth for the City of Punta Gorda while preserving its cherished Harborside Hometown ambiance.

Above all, I remain committed to listening to the voices of our residents and the small businesses that contribute to the viability and charm of our "Non- urban" City.
