Best Hospitals Expert Opinion Survey

Li-Ming Su, MD, FRCS(Glasg) | Chair, UF Urology

Dear Fellow Urologists,

I am writing to you today to ask for your support in voting for UF Health Shands Hospital’s urology program in the U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals Expert Opinion survey. As the chair of the urology department at UF Health, I can attest to our exceptional fellowship-trained faculty and the care and expertise that our team provides to our patients. Additionally, our institution has a distinguished history as a destination for groundbreaking research and innovation.

This past year UF Health Urology:

  • Remained a top-ranked national program based on U.S. News and World Report and consistently the highest-ranked academic urology program in the state of Florida.
  • Held key leadership roles in local, regional, national and international urology societies including the AUA, ABU, Endourological Society, SMSNA, SES-AUA and FUS. Click here to learn more.
  • Continued to recruit world-class faculty who have helped to expand our full-service clinical offerings including, HoLEP, advanced prostate imaging and focal therapy, male infertility, pediatric and female urology.
  • Continued to broaden our industry and investigator-led clinical trials research, especially in bladder cancer including BCG-refractory disease
  • Dedicated more resources to our researchers and labs who are working on a new and promising bladder cancer target for future immunotherapy strategies.
  • Continued to grow our AI research initiatives across UF Health. With UF now housing one of the fastest supercomputers in academia called HiperGator, we are capitalizing on the use of AI to help predict the histology of small renal masses.

Furthermore, UF Health Urology is committed to providing comprehensive and personalized care to our patients through six unique multidisciplinary care teams. We believe that each patient is unique, and we take the time to understand their individual needs and goals in order to develop a treatment plan that is tailored to their specific situation.

All voting for hospital specialty rankings will be conducted via Doximity. We kindly ask you to take a moment to make sure you are registered on Doximity as that is the only way to vote this year (no more paper ballots). Check Doximity to confirm your license and board certification information is current as those are critical in determining your voting eligibility with U.S. News & World Report.

Doximity members will be surveyed electronically from mid-February and into March. Users should receive emails inviting completion of the survey, or you may login to your Doximity profile and click the voting option at the top right corner of the homepage.

Tom Stringer, MD | UroGators Alumni Society

Dear Fellow UroGators,

As our departmental chairman Li-Ming Su attests, UF urology continues to excel on a statewide, regional and national basis. The dedication and focus required to perform at this level expands across the clinical, research and education missions of the department. As alumni we can all be proud of the current and continuing efforts in all domains.

I am especially proud of all of you and the UroGator accomplishments of this past year. As a group, we recognized the extensive contributions of Dr. Robert Newman to UF Urology as he received the Golden Gator Lifetime Achievement Award. At the annual Visiting Professor event, he was joined by the two former recipients, Dr. Dixon Walker and Dr. Zev Wajsman, as well as a host of alumni. In addition, a core group of you established and recognized two former residents with a resident education endowment in the names of Dana Moody and Omar Benitez. It was an emotional tribute in perpetuity to our comrades that we lost too early.

Besides the visiting professor weekend and resident graduation, the UroGators support and sponsor the annual reception at the AUA. I am pleased and honored to announce the return of this much anticipated and appreciated event. I have had AUA members from around the country express to me how unique and special this event is. As included in this newsletter, please note the date and time, April 29th from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at the Chicago Hyatt Regency. Please join us if able and renew old friendships.

Our history has been and continues to be integral to the ongoing success of UF Urology.

Best, Tom
