The Social Security Administration Office of Communication will be sending out mailings to notify employers and third-party vendors that at least one W-2 file contains a discrepancy between name and social security number.

The objective of this is to ensure the accuracy of information on workers' earnings records so benefits are distributed to the correct people. 

If you receive a notice, you can create a free account online with the SSA Business Services Online to identify which employee’s information is incorrect. You can also use SSA’s Social Security Number Verification Service to verify that employee’s information is accurate.
