It’s that time of year again, when you clear out the dust and clutter in your home so you can breathe easier. As you go through closets and change curtains, don’t forget that breathing easier is also dependent on your HVAC system. Here are some HVAC cleaning items for your to do list this year:
Filter
Check your filter to see if it’s dirty after months of hard work clearing the winter air you breathed. Replace it if necessary and consider an upgrade if you had air quality issues during the winter or have allergies or pets to worry about. A clean filter will improve the quality of air you breathe and boost your blower’s effectiveness so make sure to add this to your list.
Exhaust Fans
Dust can build up quickly on exhaust fans in your bathroom, above your stove and wherever else you have one. Clean them thoroughly to ensure that stale, moist air is effectively removed from your home and none of the dust affects your family.
Ductwork
A clean filter won’t stay clean for long with dirty ductwork. Make it a priority to have your ductwork thoroughly and professionally cleaned as part of your spring cleaning efforts. This is particularly critical after a season of dusty, enclosed living, especially if you have pets, small children or elderly family members.
Blower
Dust also builds up on your furnace blower, the same blower that will be circulating cool air when summer comes. Along with the connected ductwork and filter, a clean blower will keep your home’s air fresh and breathable. You’ll also benefit from better performance and higher overall efficiency.
Condensate Lines
Dirty and clogged condensate lines can prevent your air conditioner from functioning properly. This spring, do a visual inspection to see if there is any evidence of a blockage or backed up condensate. If you discover an issue you’re not comfortable cleaning it yourself, call a professional to review so you know how to mitigate it in the future.
Condenser and Evaporator Coils
These coils are the locations where heat is transferred between the air and refrigerant. Any buildup or dirt will impede this heat transfer and lower the efficiency of your system. Inspect condenser coils for damage as well to make sure it can keep you cool this summer.
