Voting Rights and Council-Manager Vote: Update
In our last newsletter we criticized state legislative efforts that suppress voting access. The less-covered part of the story is that many other state legislators are working to expand voting access, with at least 843 bills introduced this year to do so. In either case, please remember that simply introducing a bill doesn’t mean it will pass. Our newsletter also covered the voter initiative in Austin, TX, to move from a council-manager system to council-mayor. That initiative failed 86%-14%, with a few related changes, like ranked-choice voting, passing.

We also have a great jury.
Does justice look like a rehabbed bus? Or a “tricked-out trash can?” These are just two of the many ideas presented by students participating in Justicefest in Louisville, KY, on Saturday, May 22. The students spent most of the school year working on creative solutions to public issues as part of a new organization called Justice Now.
The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation recently hosted a virtual ceremony for the 2020 Health Equity Awardees.
