Hartford Public Library will be holding a series of events near each of our community locations to help anyone seeking to fill out the 2020 Census or register to vote.

Librarians will be on hand to offer assistance filling out the 2020 Census mobile questionnaire and voter registration forms. There will be free books and ice cream available at each event.

“Voting and completing the Census are two of the most fundamental – and easy – things a citizen can do to help their communities. It is our goal at HPL to encourage as many people as we can to participate in the civic process,” said Bridget Quinn-Carey, HPL’s president and CEO.
HPL will be hosting virtual School Choice Information Sessions on Wednesday, September 16 and Tuesday, September 29.

Representatives from the School Choice program will be on hand to answer questions about enrollment for the 2021-22 school year.

Re-Imagining Main Street
The City of Hartford wants to hear from you! Help to re-imagine Main Street downtown by participating in their virtual design workshop on September 1, 2, and 3. The design team will be working diligently each day on the design and from 5 to 6:30 each evening will hold a virtual pin up session where you can review and comment on the design as it develops. The attached flyer has more details. Attendees must register in order to attend, for registration go to https://linktr.ee/hartford

Join us for a discussion on the impact of the woman’s vote on contemporary politics, and it’s relevancy throughout the 20th century. There will be small group discussions based on short readings provided in advance and an opportunity to view the online Hartford History Center exhibition October 1920, which features Hartford women who registered to vote for the very first time.
The first Hartford Changemakers mural, located at Melanin, at the intersection of Albany Ave and Blue Hills, will be revealed Saturday, August 29, from 3-5 pm. The event will be livestreamed on HPL's Facebook page.

Newly appointed nonprofit board members or serving board members that have never received formal board training will learn about the ten basic responsibilities of nonprofit boards as well as the duties of individual board members, relationship between board and staff, and common issues facing nonprofit boards. PowerPoint presentation and other handouts will be emailed to participants.
Please come prepared with questions to be answered at the end of the session.
