Job Opportunity - Scouting Relationship Manager Intern
The SRM Intern role will be a one-year contract position. The SRM Intern program was originally launched in 2019, seeing four successful candidates go through the program, who are all still with the organization today. The SRM Intern role presents a unique opportunity for individuals entering the organization to gain a holistic understanding of the work that happens in each department, the collaboration inter-departmentally, and how it drives our mission. During the lifecycle of this role, the SRM Intern will work through a rotation in each department of the organization where they will be fully immersed in the work supporting full lifecycles of projects, all while learning the key drivers for Group Health, Group Support, and being a trusted advisor to our Groups and Group Commissioners. For more information on the position, and to apply (ASAP), click below.

While the main focus will be in the Ottawa area, there are other opportunities for all youth!

White Water Canoe Training
White Water 1 canoe training with Paddler's Coop at Palmer Rapids will be held June 9-11. It is a two day on the water course, intended for senior Scouts and older, including Scouters. We have an agreement with Paddler's Coop to provide the weekend course at about half of commercial rates. Contact Dave Skinner at dskinner18m@gmail.com for information. See course description and pricing below. Participants will pay Paddler Coop directly.
Course needs at least 6 participants to run, and Paddler's Coop needs to know numbers by May 1st or they will cancel our spot.
Scouters' Clubs!
Voyageur Council has started new Scouters’ Networks! They will be a monthly get-together for each Section (i.e. Colony Scouters, Pack Scouters, etc.) that will be running in a facilitated, virtual format. We hope to facilitate the sharing of great adventure ideas with Scouters and conduct mutual planning of events for youth in that age group as well as to suggest training activities for Scouters.
We are still looking for back up facilitators so that no one is stuck if they have a conflict. If you are interested in this role, contact Joni Boyd, Council Commissioner at joniboyd@scouts.ca.

Do you wanna Jamboree?
Do you have youth interested going to the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) National Jamboree in West Virginia, July 19-28, 2023? The 63rd Ottawa does because we have heard it will be a BLAST. But we need more youth and leaders to make the trip worthwhile and to save on some of the costs, so we are inviting others from Voyageur Council to join us. The Jamboree is open to any Scouts or Venturers between the ages of 12 and 18. The more the merrier!

Rural Ottawa Youth Mental Health Collective
Do you run a Scout Troop, Venturer Company, or Rover Crew in rural Ottawa? Would your Group be interested in learning about mental health topics? We want to partner with you! The Rural Ottawa Youth Mental Health Collective (ROYMHC) is a collective impact project consisting of 11 partner organizations invested in the mental wellbeing of youth living within the rural wards of Orleans East-Cumberland, Orleans South-Navan, Osgoode, Rideau-Jock, and West Carleton. ROYMHC works to provide a stronger safety net for youth if/when they face mental health challenges, through education, connecting youth with local mental health services, and removing barriers that prevent youth from accessing necessary services. Through the use of surveys and a Youth Advisory Committee, ROYMHC is committed to ensuring that all workshops are relevant to the needs and interests of Ottawa’s rural youth.

Our workshops are free of charge and facilitated by a local clinical mental health professional. Tailored to the interests of your specific group, our workshops include a presentation on a topic related to mental health, a recreational activity, and food! For more information please contact Meagan Ann Gordon at meagan@ruralOttawayouth.ca or visit our website www.ruralOttawayouth.ca. Ages 12-24 (although all Troop members are welcomed to participate).
