President's Corner

This past week, the Supreme Court of Canada heard the case of Roger Bilodeau, convicted in the senseless killings of Maurice Cardinal and Jacob Sansom. The judges came back quickly with a unanimous decision to deny the appeal. Their loss is a tragedy that has deeply affected our community, reminding us of the ongoing violence faced by Métis people in Canada.

Wednesday's Supreme Court decision marks a significant moment in upholding justice for Métis families and their right to safety and dignity.

We cannot let Maurice and Jacob be forgotten. Their families deserve justice, and we will continue to stand with them. I ask that we all support the Sansom and Cardinal families in their pursuit of healing and justice.

Sustainability Tip:

Have you ever wondered what your tea bag is made of?

Some brands sell their tea in plastic tea bags or seal these with small amounts of plastic, and these materials can break down into microplastics while your tea is steeping. Tea bags that contain plastic often also aren’t compostable.

If you prefer bagged tea, consider buying tea bags that were sealed with a bioplastic. Bioplastics are typically made of a plant-based material, compost better and may be a healthier option for tea drinkers. To skip the packaging all together, try out loose-leaf tea.
