As we wrap up the year, I want to share the strong momentum we felt at last week’s Métis National Council AGA. Our delegation had meaningful conversations with several federal cabinet ministers and Members of Parliament, as well as constructive engagement with Senators. Their participation sent a clear message that the federal government is listening, and they recognize the important work our Nation is leading.
Throughout the week, we reinforced a simple truth, we have the solutions for our Citizens, and we need our federal partners to walk with us. I was encouraged by the commitment we heard to advance our priorities, from Métis rights to economic development to our path toward a modern Treaty.
As we head into the holidays, I want to thank you for your continued strength, pride, and belief in our future. Wishing you and your families a warm and peaceful Christmas season.

Get Ready To Vote
The Late Fall District Elections (Winter 2026 Voting Period) will resume February 16–22, 2026.
After delays caused by Canada Post labour disruptions, voting will take place through electronic, mail-in, and in-person options for all eligible Otipemisiwak Métis Government Citizens 16 years of age or older on the date voting closes.
Electronic Voting (February 16–February 22, 2026)

- Request your PIN starting February 13 and allow 24–48 hours for confirmation
- Important: registration and voting are separate steps; electronic voting opens February 16
Mail-In Voting (January 20–February 22, 2026)
- Ballots and instructions mailed January 19, 2026 and mail-in ballots will be accepted until February 22, 2026
- Citizens receive an extended window to return ballots due to potential mail delays
In-Person Voting (February 22, 2026)
- Vote in the District where you’ve lived for the last 90 days
- Polls open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The Consultation Department’s National Urban Park (NUP) Program, in partnership with Parks Canada, invites Citizens to participate in a cultural asset study to help guide Métis cultural expression in urban park settings.
Cultural Assets are physical items or non-physical elements that shape community identity, heritage, and values.
Please share your input on which Métis cultural assets you think should be highlighted on educational signage or integrated into Métis-focused tourism in an Edmonton-area urban park.

Navigating cancer can be challenging, but support is available. Wellspring Alberta’s Indigenous Cancer Sharing Circle provides a safe and welcoming space for First Nations, Inuit, and Métis adults living in Alberta.
Whether you have been impacted by cancer yourself or through supporting a loved one, this monthly virtual gathering is co-led by an Elder or Knowledge Keeper and a Wellspring program leader, and ensures no one has to face cancer alone.

Navigating Life’s Stresses Can Be Difficult. It’s Okay To Need Help
We have partnered with Alberta Blue Cross and Homewood Health to create the Otipemisiwak Métis Government Wellness Program. Through this program, Métis Citizens of all ages are able to access FREE, short-term, goal-oriented counselling that is personalized, confidential, and professional.
Counsellors can help in the following areas:
- Supporting personal well-being
- Managing family and relationships
- Addressing workplace challenges
- Taking financial and legal control of life

Apply For A Chance To Join Our Water Guardians Program!
Successful applicants will travel to a lake in central Alberta in May 2026 with the Environment and Climate Change Team and learn how to take samples for water quality testing over two days. After training concludes, program participants will collect monthly samples from their local lakes between June 2026 and September 2026.
Participants will receive free water monitoring and first aid training, and free tuition to attain their boat license.

Askîy Youth Guardian Program
Métis youth aged 18–29, apply now for the February 2026 intake of the Askîy Youth Guardian Program!
From February 16 to 21, 2026, successful applicants will learn ice fishing and traditional Métis fishing techniques from experienced harvesters and the Otipemisiwak Métis Government’s Environment and Climate Change Team.
