This weekend, we gather for our Promoting and Increasing Cultural Safety (PICS) Conference and I am proud of what this represents for our government.
PICS is about creating spaces where our Citizens, especially women, youth, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ relatives, feel seen, heard, and safe. As we continue building our government, cultural safety must remain at the heart of our work. Laws and structures matter, but so do relationships.
This conference brings together leaders, Knowledge Keepers, and community members to shape what safer, more inclusive spaces look like in practice. Thank you to everyone participating. Your voices matter, and this work will guide how we lead and build a government that reflects the best of who we are.
This weekend also marks the conclusion of voting for our Women’s Representative, with in-person voting taking place Sunday. I encourage all Citizens over the age of 16 to cast their ballot. Participation strengthens our democracy and ensures women’s voices are represented at the Council table.

All Citizens are encouraged to take part in the upcoming elections, including the vote for the Provincial Women’s Representative, which is open to everyone.
In addition, three communities will be selecting their District leadership. If you live in one of the districts listed below, you can cast your ballot for both your Provincial Women’s Representative and your local District Representative.

Apply to our Water Guardians Program for a chance to receive water monitoring training, tuition for first aid training, and a boat license. Participants who complete their training and collect monthly samples between June 2026 and September 2026 will receive an honorarium.

In our February 7 issue, we discussed Canada’s Changing Climate Report (ChangingClimate.ca/CCCR2019/), which charts how climate change is affecting Canada. Curious about climate change on a global scale? Check out the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s (IPCC) research at IPCC.ch.
As the United Nations’ leading scientific body, the IPCC draws on climate change research from experts worldwide to publish reports that describe what we know, how climate change impacts us, and how we can adapt.
The Otipemisiwak Métis Government also provides Citizen feedback and recommendations to the IPCC to ensure your lived experiences and priorities are incorporated into the IPCC’s ongoing work.

COMPASS For The Caregiver: A Six Week Support Program
The Otipemisiwak Métis Government, in partnership with Caregivers Alberta, is offering COMPASS for the Caregiver. Gina Levasseur, our Community Wellness Coordinator, will guide participants through modules on:
- Recognizing your strengths and needs as a caregiver
- Managing stress and preventing burnout
- Balancing relationships and asking for help
- Planning and navigating caregiving services

Recovery Doesn’t Have To Be Lonely — Find Strength In Community Along The Way
Connections in Recovery is designed as a safe space for individuals, friends, and family whose lives are affected by addiction. Join us every Tuesday from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. to connect and build friendships in support and solidarity with each other’s recovery process.
In-person gatherings take place weekly with the added option to participate online via Zoom. Sharing circles with a special guest will take place once a month.

We’re here to support you at every stage of your journey as a licensed Métis day home provider!
Whether you’re just starting out or growing your culturally grounded day home, we have resources, funding, and support available for you.
There are now two grants available for licensed Métis day home providers:

The Day Home Startup Pilot Program offers step-by-step support for new providers opening and operating a licensed day home.
The Métis Day Home Cultural Support Grant provides resources and funding to help existing licensed Métis day homes integrate Métis culture, including an early learning resource kit and access to specialized Métis ECE training.

Calling All Men!
Breaking the Silence – Empowering Métis Men and Boys, is a province-wide engagement initiative focused on gender-based violence and the realities facing missing and murdered Indigenous men and boys.
Community gatherings will take place in Calgary, Grande Prairie, Lac La Biche, and Lethbridge. Male-identifying participants aged 18 and over will be invited into culturally grounded, trauma-informed spaces for dialogue, reflection, and healing.

Calling all horse lovers! Join us on March 28 in Olds for a one-day Equine-Assisted Learning (EAL) workshop designed specifically for Métis men aged 18 and above. Horses have a powerful way of communicating and can help people develop important life skills!
This unique workshop offers Métis men the opportunity to gain valuable insights about themselves, enhance their relational skills, and deepen their understanding of Métis cultural values.

Enter Our Visa Gift Card Draw!
Since September 2025, we’ve mailed out over 750 craft kits to Métis youth aged 12–29 across Alberta!
Each kit includes supplies needed to complete that month’s craft, along with access to a step-by-step YouTube tutorial. These mailout kits have allowed Métis youth throughout the province to take part in Youth programming and connect with Métis culture from wherever they are, from Fort Chipewyan to Lethbridge, Fox Creek, Worsley, Carstairs and everywhere in between!

How to Enter:

Join us for a monthly Métis gathering of fun, food, and friendship at our Seniors Potluck and Bingo hosted by the Calgary Elbow and Calgary Nosehill Métis Districts!
Every fourth Saturday of the month from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., come out for a relaxed afternoon gathering with our seniors, enjoying friendly bingo games, sharing delicious home-cooked dishes, and spending time together in good company. Please note there will be no bingo in July or August.
