Coming Soon: Mêtawêtan Early Learning And Child Care Centre

A proud milestone for the Otipemisiwak Métis Government and Métis families across Alberta.

Opening soon in Griesbach (Edmonton), Mêtawêtan Early Learning and Child Care Centre will be the first early learning centre owned and operated by the Otipemisiwak Métis Government. Designed for children aged 19 months to 5 years, the centre will offer 72 licensed spaces in a vibrant, culturally grounded environment including:

• Métis language and traditions
• Land-based learning
• Daily programming inspired by community and culture
• Led by Métis-trained Early Childhood Educators



This is more than childcare, it’s a place where our youngest Citizens can learn, grow, and connect to who they are.

Flourishing Futures: Support Métis Early Learners

This program is designed to support Métis Early Learners aged 0–11 across Alberta by covering the cost of services and supports that will address common developmental, social, and emotional barriers to learning.

Join our free Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) Information Sessions on Zoom to learn about tools and strategies to quit tobacco.

Are You Navigating Cancer? You Are Not Alone.

Navigating cancer can be challenging, but support is available. Wellspring Alberta’s Indigenous Cancer Sharing Circle provides a safe and welcoming space for First Nations, Inuit, and Métis adults living in Alberta. Whether you have been impacted by cancer yourself or through supporting a loved one, this monthly virtual gathering is co-led by an Elder or Knowledge Keeper and a Wellspring program leader, and ensures no one has to face cancer alone.

Understanding Arthritis In The Métis Community

Arthritis is more than just joint pain; it is a chronic condition that impacts daily life, mobility, and overall well-being. We are pleased to present our health report, “Epidemiological and Health Services Indicators of Arthritis Among the Métis Population of Alberta”, developed in collaboration with the University of Alberta and Alberta Health. This report provides valuable insights related to arthritis among Métis Albertans in comparison to the non-Métis population.

Key Highlights:

• Prevalence of arthritis in the Métis community
• Access to treatment and health services

Substance Use Recovery Program

Shakiwayniwayhk, the Substance Use Recovery Program, offers eligible Citizens recovering from substance use disorders individualized support to foster independent and healthy living during the maintenance stage of recovery.

To be eligible for this program, applicants must:

• Be an Otipemisiwak Métis Government Citizen

• Be aged 18+

• Be a resident of Alberta

• Be in recovery from substance use disorders

• Have completed treatment at a Recovery Alberta-approved residential or inpatient program in the past 12 months

OR

Be actively engaged and stabilized for 6 months through a Recovery Alberta-accredited outpatient treatment program and have this confirmed by your outpatient treatment team*

Call For Métis Artists—The Lodge At Métis Crossing

Métis Crossing is inviting Métis artists to contribute their creative vision to The Lodge at Métis Crossing. This is more than just wall art—it’s an opportunity to share Métis stories, culture, and traditions in a space where guests will experience them firsthand.

We are seeking original artwork for guest rooms that will provide visitors with a deeper connection to the Métis way of life.

Why Get Involved?



Permanent Display: Your work will become part of The Lodge’s lasting cultural experience.

Compensation: Budgets range from $1,500–$3,500 per room.

Creative Freedom: Submissions can include painting, beading, sculptural work (wooden paddles, feathers, leather, hide), photography, collage, and more.

Thematic Storytelling: Share stories about Métis history, families, land and water relations, entrepreneurship, and creative expression.
