Our Kitchen Party Tour will be guided by the spirit of Âstam Pi Kîyōki or “Come and Visit”.
A kitchen party is a long-standing Métis tradition of informal, community-based gatherings, where people come together connect, celebrate, and unwind.
Whether you grew up with kitchen parties, are reconnecting with your Métis roots, or are joining for the first time, there is a place for you.
We will be visiting 15 communities across Alberta. I look forward to visiting with you this summer.

Secretary Spotlight: Grant Lacombe, Secretary Of Culture And Harvesting
Grant Lacombe brings a lifetime of experience and a deep-rooted connection to Métis culture to his role as Secretary of Culture and Harvesting. A resident of the Slave Lake region since 1978, he now lives in Canyon Creek with his wife of 26 years, Tammy.
His commitment to Métis identity has been shaped by the guidance of his parents, Norman and Myrtle Lacombe, as well as the early influence of respected Métis leader Stan Daniels. Following a 35-year career in the oil and gas sector, Secretary Lacombe is widely recognized for his strong work ethic and dedication to community.

Honouring Gabriel Dumont
On May 19, we at the Otipemisiwak Métis Government honour Gabriel Dumont, a Métis leader, diplomat, and skilled buffalo hunter, whose courage and leadership helped uphold Métis rights and political independence, including during the 1885 North-West Resistance.
Gabriel Dumont Day is a time to reflect on Métis history and celebrate Métis strength, resilience, culture, and pride through learning and storytelling.

Breaking The Silence – Kayâwak kiyâmipik – ᑲᔮᐘᐠ ᑭᔮᒥᐱᐠ
The Justice Department of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government, in collaboration with the City of Edmonton, invites Métis men (aged 18+) to participate in a trauma-informed engagement workshop to explore the impacts of gender-based violence, intergenerational trauma, and colonial harm.
This workshop is also open to Métis women, 2S+ people, First Nations and Inuit relatives, and non-Indigenous participants (aged 18+).

FireSmart Workshop
Wildfire risk is rising across Alberta, but thankfully, there are many ways you can prepare.
The Otipemisiwak Métis Government is inviting 20 Citizens to a FireSmart 101 Workshop in Mundare to learn practical steps you can take to reduce wildfire risk around your property and in your community.
The workshop will include FireSmart 101 Training, a complimentary lunch, and travel by bus. Please email wildfires@metis.org if interested.

Domestic Fishing Rules, Regulations & Conditions
2026-2027
In this year’s Domestic Fishing Regulations, any changes from last year are shown in bold.
Approved Fishing Locations: Otipemisiwak Métis Government-Approved Harvesters may fish only in lakes listed in the current regulations.
Fishing with Non-Approved Harvesters: If you fish with non-approved harvesters, you cannot keep any fish they catch that would be illegal under the regulations.
Following the Rules: If no specific angling rules are listed for your location, follow the “General Rules for Angling” found on page 2 of the regulations.
Opening dates vary by lake: some are open year-round; others open May 14 or May 31. If no dates are listed under “Specific Angling Rules,” use the “General Spring Closure” (April 1 – May 14).
Size limits: if none are listed under “Specific Angling Rules,” use the default size limits in the General Rules for Angling (page 2).
