The season of spring is notably a time for renewal and growth. Here within our Otipemisiwak Métis Government, we’ve ushered in a few new milestones over the last two weeks.
I’m proud to share that we have officially sworn in two new Citizens’ Representatives: Trevor Ward in the Rocky View Métis District and Cindy Moore in the Wabasca–Desmarais Métis District. Diane Kim Peredery has also been sworn in as the District Captain for Wabasca–Desmarais. As President, I am thrilled to have these new voices as elected members of our government.
As of May 5, more than 50% of our District Councils are now formally established and incorporated. While this is an important milestone to celebrate it’s important to know that no District is behind in their transition and each is moving through a transparent, democratic process at a pace that respects the unique local circumstances
These are the critical developments on our government’s journey to advance Métis rights, interests and self-determination.

Secretary Spotlight:
Jason Ekeberg
Jason Ekeberg brings decades of lived experience and leadership to his role as Provincial Secretary of the Treasury. A familiar face within the Otipemisiwak Métis Government, Jason served as Regional Vice-President for Region 1 under the former Métis Nation of Alberta and was elected in 2023 as the Citizens’ Representative for the Lac La Biche Métis District.
As Secretary of the Treasury, Jason’s goal is to ensure that every Citizen can understand how resources are being used to support the Nation and trust that they’re being managed with care.

Jared Heyd
We're proud to spotlight Jared Heyd of Calgary, Alberta, for his inspiring work at the Arthur Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre. Recently featured by Alberta Health Services, Jared was recognized for his exceptional craftsmanship and dedication as a carpenter, using traditional carpentry practices to enhance the healing environment at the centre.
Devoting over 150 hours to the project, Jared skillfully balanced his regular duties with the intricate work required. His commitment stemmed from a deep desire to create something meaningful—something that would offer comfort and strength to those facing difficult times.

Learn Vital Recovery Methods For Endangered Bat Species In Alberta
The Bats of Alberta Training and Supporting (BATS) program offers valuable tools and educational materials about the Silver-Haired Bat, Eastern Red Bat, and the Hoary Bat, along with key restoration strategies that can help revitalize these species.
This in-person engagement session provides Citizens with information about three bat species in our province that are classified as endangered.

Successful applicants can put up to $20,000 towards energy-efficient upgrades, which reduce energy consumption, lower greenhouse gas emissions, and reduce energy costs. Funded by Environment and Climate Change Canada through the Indigenous Leadership Fund, the EERP is set to significantly improve sustainability and cost-efficiency for Métis homeowners.
