Project Spotlight: Dedicated Grant Mechanism Project for Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities in Mexico

This month, we’re spotlighting the remarkable impact of the Dedicated Grant Mechanism (DGM) Project for Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities in Mexico, where investments in women’s leadership, sustainable livelihoods, and forest stewardship are creating lasting benefits for communities and ecosystems alike.

The Dedicated Grant Mechanism (DGM) project for Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities in Mexico is helping women take a leading role in sustainable development and forest conservation. By providing training, resources, and opportunities for leadership, the program is strengthening both livelihoods and climate resilience in Indigenous and local communities.

To date, more than 1,200 women have participated in activities focused on sustainable forest management, entrepreneurship, and community leadership, while 450 women have been trained as community promoters. The initiative has also supported 75 women-led projects that generate income while protecting forests and natural resources.

The impact extends beyond economic opportunity. Women are increasingly participating in local decision-making and helping shape the management of community resources, contributing to stronger, more resilient communities.

The project’s achievements have been independently verified under the W+ Standard, generating more than 11,288 W+ Credits through measurable improvements in women’s income, assets, education, and knowledge. These credits recognize tangible gains in women’s empowerment while helping channel additional resources back to women and their communities.

Making Social Impact Count: A Dialogue on Trade-offs, Challenges, and Opportunities

Hosted with Value Network Ventures (VNV), this closed-door, buyer-led dialogue will explore how social impact, livelihoods, and gender inclusion can become meaningful drivers in carbon credit procurement rather than secondary considerations.

No Integrity Without Inclusion: Gender and the Future of Carbon Markets

This session hosted by CGAP, will examine how women’s participation and gender co-benefits connect directly to integrity, governance, and permanence within voluntary carbon markets, featuring perspectives from across the carbon ecosystem.
