Executive Director's Corner

Yá’át’ééh,

It has been a couple of weeks since our last update, for which I apologize. Since we last spoke, our office hosted was graced with the presence of President Nygren, Speaker Curley, and several Council Delegates who came to Washington, D.C. to attend the White house Tribal Nations Summit, and advocate before Congress and the Administration for changes that will help the Navajo people.

During the Summit, our office was given the opportunity to host a banquet for tribal leaders from across the United States, at which the one of the Navajo Nation's very own, Assistant Secretary Arlando Teller from the U.S. Department of Transportation, gave the keynote address. It is always good to join with other tribal leaders to remind us of how much we have in common, and the value that will come from working together to support all of Indian Country.

But the work continues on. In this edition, we will look at some changes to the NAGPRA regulations, underscoring the ongoing commitment of the U.S. Department of the

Interior to preserving our cultural heritage. We also look back at the Land Buy Back Program, a significant initiative shaping the future of our tribal lands.

Finally, we have included an op-ed discussing the ramifications of the RECA amendments being cut from the NDAA. It's a call to action, urging us to stay engaged and advocate for the issues that matter most to our community.

Thank you for being part of this journey with us. Together, we navigate these important conversations and contribute to the collective growth and strength of our community.
