Homeland Security Leadership Visits NNWO


On Tuesday, senior leadership from the Department of Homeland Security visited the Navajo Nation Washington Office to meet with NNWO staff regarding the transition, increasing tribal relations, and working with their component agencies.


Governor Katie Hobbs Hosts Roundtable for Tribal Nations in Washington, D.C.


On Tuesday, Navajo Nation Washington Office staff attended a roundtable hosted by Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs. The gathering brought together tribal leaders, tribal representatives, and state officials to discuss priorities and challenges facing indigenous communities in Arizona.

President Nygren Urges Restoration of GIMC Funds During IHS Realignment Consultation


On Wednesday, Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren participated in the Indian Health Service Realignment Tribal Consultation in Washington, D.C. The consultation's focus was to hear input from tribes regarding the reorganization of IHS for the first time in over 20 years. IHS leadership attended the consultation and present the progress of the reorganization plan completed throughout the last six months.


Navajo Nation Raises Concerns Over Monument Rollbacks


In response to recent federal developments surrounding national monument protections, the Navajo Nation has acted to ensure its voice is heard in any discussions about changes to monument boundaries or management. With support from NNWO, letters were delivered to USDA, DOI, BLM, and the U.S. Forest Service. The letters called for tribal consultations regarding any changes specifically to the Baaj Nwaavjo I'tah Kukveni - Ancestral Footprints of the Grand Canyon National Monument.



NNWO Interns Reflect on Their Summer in Washington, D.C.

This year's summer internship program at the Navajo Nation Washington Office is coming to a close. The program, which started the first week of July, included five students who spent the summer getting a first hand glimpse into government and legislative affairs, as well as the intricacies of the unique government-to-government relationship the Navajo Nation holds with the United States. Here is what each intern had to say about their experience.

That morning, Council Delegates will complete the final leg of their traditional trail rides, arriving on horseback at the Council Chamber to mark the official start of the session.
