On Wednesday, November 20, the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works held a hearing titled, "Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Safe Drinking Water Act." During his testimony and discussions with the Senate Committee, he highlighted the important role of the Safe Drinking Water Act in protecting the health of the Navajo people.

Investing the Crisis of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women
The House Committee on Appropriations hosted a hearing this week, investing the MMIW crisis. One key witness in this hearing was Law & Order Committee Chair Eugenia Charles-Newton, who discussed the issues that hinder justice for Missing and Murdered Diné Relatives on the Navajo Nation, including jurisdictional lines and a lack of communication or miscommunication amongst law enforcement.

Office of Violence Against Women Holds Annual Consultation
During the week of November 18th, the USDOJ's Office of Violence Against Women held its 19th annual Government-to-Government consultation in Santa Fe, NM. During the first day of testimonies, Missing and Murdered Diné Relatives Task Force Chair, Council Delegate Amber Kanazbah Crotty delivered a moving testimony on the challenges and first-hand experiences Navajo faces in dealing with these issues.

NNWO Organizes Special Screening of The Return of Navajo Boy | NNWO organized special screenings of the documentary The Return of Navajo Boy, which sheds light on uranium mining on Navajoland and its long-lasting effects. Held at Southern Utah University and Utah Tech University, the event inspired students and faculty to consider the importance of storytelling in amplifying underrepresented voices, and prompted many to ask how they can contribute to raising awareness about similar issues. | | |
