Greetings!
"Chassidim (=inspired Jews) never part from one another. Wherever we go, we are one, like family."
- The Rebbe
This Shabbos, our community will gather at Shul for a farewell kiddush to Rabbi Ilan and Devorah Weinberg.
Rabbi Ilan & Devorah Weinberg
|
For seven years this special couple was dedicated to our community, freely sharing their genuine love and friendship, offering an open heart and open home to so many. Affectionately known to young and old as "Rabbi W" (or simply - "W"), Ilan and his life partner Devorah, along with their wonderful family, brought joy and wisdom to the minds and hearts of all of us.
Please join us tomorrow as we offer the Weinbergs our heartfelt gratitude for all they've done and for being the special people they are. We will also wish them the absolute best of mazel and success in their future endeavors in Wilks Barre, PA where Rabbi W will serve as Dean and Director of Development and mentor to the students at a Yeshiva for at-risk high school boys.
We will be saying 'farewell' in both it's meanings: Farewell, and fare well! And we know you will fare VERY well in your new community, much as you have in ours!
Shabbat Shalom,
Rabbi Shalom M Paltiel
P.S. Please join us for this celebration tomorrow morning - Services - 9:30am. Torah reading - 10AM. Kiddush luncheon at noon. I hope to see you. My personal thanks to all those who gave of their time and money to organize the luncheon and gift for the Weinbergs. Thank you!

Can Pig Be Kosher?
By: Rabbi Aron Moss | Sydney, Australia
Question: I am so embarrassed I don't know what to say. I bought a tomato sauce in the supermarket last week that I thought was kosher. I always buy this brand, but this time it seems I chose a different flavor than usual. After cooking with it and feeding my family, I read the ingredients, and to my horror, the sauce wasn't kosher! When I say not kosher, I mean as not kosher as you can get. It contained... ham! I will do whatever I need to make my kitchen kosher again, I know that can be fixed. But what devastates me is, what can I do about what I ate, and fed my family?

Inner Peace
The world is a place of constant change and unrest. Each point in time is distinct from the point before and the point after. Every point in space is its own world, with its own conditions and state of being. It is a world of fragments constantly rushing like traffic in anarchy.
Look at your own life: You do so many different things, one after the other without any apparent connection between them.
Inner peace is when every part of you and every facet of your day is moving in the same direction.
When you have purpose, you have peace.

Counting Other People's Money
At each of their stops over their forty-year trek, the people made sure to erect their tents in a modest arrangement. Apparently, it was this exceptionally sensitive quality amongst them that made it impossible for Balaam to harm them.

A Different Kind of Father's Day
I'd see a father playing with his children and feel a deep stabbing pain. A friend would mention asking her father for advice, and I'd feel jealousy running through my veins. I could easily end up in tears by reading a children's book about happy families.

A Feminist's Quest for a Place in Jewish Life
Although I was at peace about my situation, it was still reassuring to hear from someone of the Rebbe's stature that there is a role for every woman, whether a mother or not, in Judaism.

Parshat Balak Balak, the king of Moab, summons the prophet Balaam to curse the people of Israel. On the way, Balaam is berated by his donkey, who sees, before Balaam does, the angel that G-d sends to block their way. Three times, from three different vantage points, Balaam attempts to pronounce his curses; each time, blessings issue forth instead. Balaam also prophesies on the end of the days and the coming of Moshiach.
The people fall prey to the charms of the daughters of Moab, and are enticed to worship the idol Peor. When a high-ranking Israelite official publicly takes a Midianite princess into a tent, Pinchas kills them both, stopping the plague raging among the people.
