WORD TO THE WISE

Greetings!
CAN MY CRAFT BREWERY AFFORD TO WAIT FOR SBA EMERGENCY FUNDS?
I love it when our members step up and help each other. We've all felt overwhelmed by the changes to our businesses. We've made the heart wrenching choice to furlough some employees, we're worried about how no draft sales will affect the supply of cans, and (at least in the USA) the federal government keeps asking us to reapply for disaster relief loans because the rules seem to constantly change.

Backwoods Brewing Company CEO, Steve Waters answered the call multiple times this week and has authored FOUR blogs to help you determine your cash burn rate, estimated payroll, and how much you can reasonably and responsibly borrow through the federal disaster relief programs. That's why this thoughtful, smart, and humorous CPA/CEO is Crafting A Strategy's first two-time winner of our CAS Member of the Month award! Thank you Steve Waters for stepping up to help those in need!

ADDITIONAL CAS MEMBERS STEP UP ON OUR COVID-19 OPERATIONS FORUMS (MEMBERS ONLY)

Several CAS members answered questions and shared best practices on two forum threads this week. First, Dr. Mark Meckler and CAS Member, Rick Wehner (Brewery Finance) listened to the Brewers Association's webinar on SBA funding and distilled the information down in a New Forum Thread: Staying Afloat Through the COVID-19 Situation.

Second, a previous forum thread received new action from Postdoc Brewing (Redmond, WA USA), Backwoods Brewing (Carson, WA USA), and CAS Co-founder, Dr. Mark Meckler.

CONCERNS ABOUT CAN SUPPLY GROW AMONG CAS COMMUNITY BREWERIES

Several back channel conversations occurred last week as CAS members became increasingly worried about the supply of new cans for small and independent craft breweries. With the draft market drying up globally, will the largest breweries in the world use their bargaining power to force can manufacturers to stop supplying the smallest craft breweries? Should we be filling up inventories now to keep up with demand for the next several months? What about labels? What may be next as the largest companies try to use market forces to squeeze supply? We've started a new forum thread to get this important and scary conversation started.
FEATURED MEMBER OF THE MONTH
Steve Waters, CEO
Backwoods Brewing Company
Carson, Washington (USA)
Congratulations to our first ever, two-time winner of the CAS Member of the Month, Steve Waters!

Steve is among the most generous Member Experts in our community and regularly shares his thoughts on our forums and on podcasts. The reason I made him our first two-time winner has been his response to questions about COVID-19 and applying for funding from the United States' Small Business Administration. So, apologies to our non-USA members spread across the globe, but within each of these blogs is wisdom that can help anyone, anywhere in the world:
