As we discussed last week, CAS member breweries are coming up with some very creative responses to COVID-19. Faced with government closures of all restaurants and taprooms, many members have begun home delivery and offering "to-go" and "curbside" service to keep their employees working and to keep the beer flowing. Perhaps the most fun and innovative (even if it wasn't hugely profitable) solution comes from our friends at Backwoods Brewing Company (Carson, Washington USA). In an effort to maintain social distancing protocols and safely serve pizza and beer, Backwoods asked customers to stay in their cars and enjoy a movie in their parking lot. Here's a comment from CAS Member Expert and Backwoods' CEO, Steve Waters:
“We had some rough days right after the shutdown was announced, and one of our crew thought up the idea to host a drive in movie. With all the bad news going on, it was a positive thing to focus on, and thankfully a new mission to work on while we were scrounging up emergency funding and doing all of the responsible things as well.
We hoped that it would push some extra to go business out of the pub on those nights, and honestly it’s been alright, but the best part has been giving our community something to enjoy, some form of togetherness while still being able to maintain their social distance.”
