March 20, 2023 | WACA Recommends Viewing This Email as a Webpage

Dear WACA,

Public programs around the WACA network are a valuable way to stay on top of global developments and understand international issues from a variety of perspectives, and many are made available to be viewed live or in a recording afterwards. In this week's newsletter, we're highlighting programming Councils are offering in the coming days about China. Tune in as you're able and nuance your understanding of the Great Power Competition and so much else.

We're excited to launch WACA 101, an orientation to the World Affairs Council network for Council staff and board members. Whether you're new to the network or would like a refresher, we'll be diving into the history of Councils and the Council network, current benefits and opportunities for Councils, ways to get involved with the national network, and a number of other topics of interest. Find more information below.

Kind regards,

Matthew Hughes, President & CEO

In his recently published book, THE BILL OF OBLIGATIONS: The Ten Habits of Good Citizens, Council on Foreign Relations president Richard Haass argues that the idea of modern-day citizenship must be revised and expanded. Haas examines our Bill of Rights and introduces ten new obligations that he believes are essential for healing our divisions and safeguarding the country’s future. The World Affairs Councils of America is pleased to partner with Global Santa Fe, to bring you A Conversation With Richard Haass this Wednesday, March 22, from 7:00-8:00 PM EDT. Richard Haass and Global Santa Fe’s Jim Falk will discuss Haass’ book and take your questions on the book and other timely issues.

Each year, the Council Leadership Meeting, also called the Spring Leadership Meeting, is a unique opportunity for all Council staff and board members to come together to build the WACA community, highlight best practices, problem-solve shared challenges, and plan future opportunities as a network. At the suggestion of a number of Council colleagues, we're excited to announce that this year's Council Leadership Meeting will be held in Washington, DC from June 14-16, 2023.

WACA Office Hours kicked off at the beginning of February and we have enjoyed spending time with many of you, hearing feedback and ideas for furthering our shared missions through these virtual weekly hourly meetings. We are continuing our Office Hours throughout the month of March and have scheduled April hours as well. Whether you would like to hop on for five minutes, the entire hour, or somewhere in between - we look forward to seeing you on Zoom soon!
