Mary Eisenhower to Speak at WACA Council Leadership Meeting
|
|
WACA is pleased to announce that
Mary Eisenhower,
President and Chairman Emeritus of
People to People International (PTPI), will speak
Friday, June 14
at the semi-annual
Council Leadership and WACA Board Meetings in Kansas City, MO.
Mary Eisenhower was born in Washington, DC during her grandfather Dwight D. Eisenhower’s first term in office as President of the United States. Mary says that she joined PTPI hoping to carry on her grandfather’s dream, but that now it has become a dream of her own. She established the PTPI Friendship Fund in 1999 to foster connections with the PTPI network and the global community. She established “Peace Camp 2003: An Evolution of Thought and Action” and “The Global Peace Initiative," which have brought people from diverse areas together in Egypt, Jordan, and Turkey, to discuss issues and reach a better understanding of their unique and individual cultures. The programs remain active today.

WAC Dallas/Fort Worth Convenes President Bolsonaro
|
|
World Affairs Council of Dallas/Fort Worth convened the
Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro in a public forum for the community on May 16. World Affairs Councils are nonpartisan and do not endorse the views of any leader or faction; Councils convene leaders and experts who bring the full range of perspectives so that American citizens can make well informed judgments and decisions.
The purpose is as important as it is fundamental: In a democracy, agreement is not essential but participation is. Since its founding, the Council network has dedicated itself to informing, inspiring, and engaging the public in civil discourse about U.S. foreign policy and America’s role in and connections to the world.

Jane Wales Steps Down From World Affairs After 20 Years of Leadership
|
|
|
|
WACA celebrates the many contributions of
World Affairs' (Northern California) President and CEO
Jane Wales as she steps down from her role to join the
Aspen Institute as Vice President this year. She will be honored at the Council's
Annual Dinner being held on
May 20
.
Wales leaves with many accomplishments under her belt, each of which has enhanced the role and extended the reach of the organization, diversifying its audiences and modernizing its programs. Key among those accomplishments was the creation of the Global Philanthropy Forum, a peer learning network of philanthropists committed to international causes.
“In her twenty years of leadership, Jane has brought vitality and vibrancy to World Affairs,” said
Jonathan Visbal, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of World Affairs. “She built a first class organization, launched compelling programs, and built a trusted brand. We are grateful for her insight, her leadership, and her steady stewardship.”

WorldDenver's Founding E.D. Karen de Bartolomé Retires
|
|
WACA celebrates the long leadership of
WorldDenver's founding Executive Director,

She brought significant experience in international education and program administration to the organization, and WACA joins WorldDenver in commending her for her profound impact on the community. After many years of service, Karen de Bartolomé retired on May 15, and plans to enjoy traveling and gardening in her leisure time.
As de Bartolomé steps down from her role, WorldDenver's Board of Directors has established a special "
Karen and Charles de Bartolomé Fund" in her honor. She has generously asked that gifts for her retirement be directed to this charitable fund, which will continue to strengthen WorldDenver's mission and impact in the region.
