Did you know?
August 4 is National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day, a commemoration of America's favorite cookie. This may be hard to believe, but this classic cookie favorite was actually the product of an accident!

In 1938, Ruth Graves Wakefield, the baker and owner of the Toll House Inn in Whitman, Massachusetts ran out of baker's chocolate to make her cookies, so she decided to use a normal semi-sweet chocolate bar instead. The baker's chocolate would have just melted into the cookie dough, however, the chunks of semi-sweet chocolate did not mix with the dough, but filled the cookies with chunks of chocolate.

This fortunate accident was such a success that Ruth started her own company, Toll House, to sell her cookies. And there you have it... a business success story!
Business Recognition Breakfast
Speaking of success, every year the Waterford Area Chamber of Commerce and Waterford Township collaborate to celebrate the success of our local businesses. Two specific areas of recognition are highlighted for our businesses: milestones in business and buildings that have been renovated to a degree that positively impacts the beauty of our corridors.

In addition, a business and individual (chamber members only) are recognized for specific characteristics that contribute to our community. All of these award recipients are honored at this event and receive a plaque of recognition. Stakeholders, leaders and businesses join together in honor of these accomplishments. Please take the time to nominate a business and individual your feel deserves this prestigious recognition!
Oakland Uncorked
Other great things that occur in August include our very own local event - Oakland Uncorked. Although it's local, it has become a destination event with attendees throughout Oakland County.

Oakland Uncorked is a wonderful opportunity to feature our local restaurants, brewers and artisans. We have had a great array of restaurants in the past and asking our "seasoned" (no pun intended) folks to join us and feature their unique cuisine. No doubt, its a fabulous evening. Join us!
Business over Breakfast
Every year we look forward to meeting with our next door neighbors at the Clarkston Area Chamber. This year we will be enjoying the beautiful grounds at All Saints Cemetery for a continental breakfast and networking.

This is always an opportunity to find new referral partners - the key to growing your business. And remember, as we always say, business doesn't end at the borders.

Member & Community Announcements
Oakland County Parks and Recreation is considering making some improvements to Waterford Oaks County Park. As part of that process, they’ve developed a brief (3 minute) survey and have invited all interested residents to participate and provide their thoughts on Waterford Oaks. A link to the survey is below – please feel free to share with others you think might be interested in providing their input.
