Last weekend, the GISD Middle Schools competed at the Region 3 State Academic Pentathlon competition. The Pentathlon competition is comprised of five events: math, social studies, science, literature, fine arts, and Super Quiz. The curriculum this year was The American Revolution. Each team is made up of 9 students according to their GPA: three "A" average students, three "B" average students and three "C" average students.
Austin Academy for Excellence's 7th grade team won first place in the state out of a total of 65 teams. As state champions, this qualified them to compete at the National Pentathlon Competition in May in Garden Grove, California. Austin's 8A team won second place in the state and their 8B team ranked in the top 6 out of 75 teams, which also advances them to compete at National Pentathlon in May.
Jackson Technology Center for Math and Science's 8th grade team ranked in the top 10 in the state earning them a spot to compete in the online national competition in May.
