There was an old country song about walkin’ to New Orleans, but in these modern times, Lynn and I have decided that we’d have better luck flyin’ to New Orleans. Why there, you ask??? Because that’s where BERNINA University is being held this year. We will fly out on Saturday, and the big meetings begin Sunday, continuing through July 1st. They leave us very little time to see the city, or shop, or do travel-things unless we go early or stay late. By the end of the evening on Wed., we’re generally feeling like we truly did walk to New Orleans and our bodies are payin’ the price!!! We will, however, be introduced to the new machines, feet, hoops or whatever they have in store for us at the first meeting Sunday morning. So stay tuned throughout the week for chatter and pics about the new things you will be seeing in-store soon! There will be no traditional newsletter, but we’ll try to stay in touch daily while we’re gone.

As per usual, we know there will be some new machines to be unveiled, but that’s the extent of what we know. Anything beyond that, at this point, is pure speculation! BERNINA seldom disappoints, and the general theme this year is “Imagine More”, so it’s interesting to let our minds float in to Creativity-Land and think about what we would add to our favorite machine, hoop or software…..to imagine more!

As for getting back to reality, remember that we are still taking orders for the new #50 Walking Foot to perfectly fit our 9 mm stitches, and we will turn this order in at BU. We accepted a lot of orders for our 16th Anniversary Party, but we are still taking orders with payment. They are not yet available, and we want them for you before they go in to a backorder situation, so get yours ASAP! Another thing to keep in mind is that we still have a few of the wonderfully helpful lightbars on our floor, for sale as cash and carry right now, at prices probably never to be seen again. Call or stop in to see what sizes we have left, and what the prices are. We need the space for the new designed Finesse Aura Lightbars!!! You will see your stitching and color combinations over your longarm projects (or over even your domestic tables!) in stunning clarity. These new bars are adjustable in configurations from 6’ to 13’, to fit ANY longarm quilting setup! You will be able to shift the lighting from warm to cool for greater fabric contrast with stitching clarity. Height is adjustable on both the older and newer models, FYI. Lighting is such an important function in our craft, that I don’t want you to miss the opportunity!

When we returned last month from our training at Grace, I did not have time to tell you about the new GRACE 19SD, the sit-down quilting system: 19” of machine throat space, the power of a professional longarm from the comfort of your own chair. Your work space is large, at 34.75 x 24.74 with a wing on each side of the table for expandable workspace (77.5 x 34.75!!!!). Included is an optical encoder stitch regulation for flawless consistency in stitching. Each stitch is measured and adjusted in real time by two optical encoders, keeping your stitch length even. The included table allows you to sit and quilt with less fatigue so you can keep sewing longer without standing or back issues! Last to mention is a consistent stitch speed up to 2,600 stitches per minute. It solves a lot of issues, right?!?!

Janome’s 250th Celebration continues through July!!! Sale prices on select machines (M17, M8, 9480 QC Pro, 550 E Memory Craft and 6700 Pro) are huge AND include a Prepaid VISA Gift Card! Other Janome models have additional celebration SAVINGS also, so think about upgrading your current machine, or duplicating your current machine so you don’t have to transport your favorite machine from state to state if you’re a winter visitor. These hot summer days are great times for us to sit and sew, try new patterns, take new classes, keep ourselves productively happy! And then we can forget about the heat and play with new feet (the sewing kind, of course!).

For our special fabric of the weeks, through July 6, let’s do Patriotic Fabrics and Kits at 25% off when you give us the code: 250USA. Purchase online or in shop, but don’t forget the code (250USA) when buying any patriotic fabrics or kits. We will be CLOSED JULY 4, so stock up early! We’re then back in business on Sunday, July 5 from noon to four as usual! I hope that we all have a fun and wonderful July Fourth, celebrating America’s 250 Anniversary, and I hope everyone takes a little time or a lot of time thinking about this country, and what makes it wonderful and how we can positively DO something to turn a perceived negative into a true positive. The Louisiana Purchase made a significant change in what is now America and in our history, so it should be fun to be in New Orleans just prior to this celebration and see how the territory handles the party!  Be safe and remember the code: 250USA!!!!!
