WAPEA
es un acrónimo de la frase en inglés

"¿Cuándo evolucionará la gente de nuevo?

, la cual captura con humor la esencia de la filosofía de los artistas sobre transformar los ritmos existentes en nuevas creaciones que desafían los límites y canalizan sus emociones.
Barreto y Tong comenzaron a trabajar en 2012 como un colectivo de productores y compositores, bajo el nombre de
The Swaggernautz
. Juntos, han producido más de sesenta éxitos que se han posicionado en el Top 20, incluidos veinte éxitos #1 en todo el mundo y más de diez canciones de con certificación de platino. Su discografía se ha posicionado en el #1 en los cinco continentes, en sesenta y seis países, entre ellos: Estados Unidos, México, Australia, Filipinas, China, entre otros. Han trabajado con artistas influyentes como Luis Fonsi, Demi Lovato, CNCO, Troye Sivan, CD9, Jorge Blanco, Show Luo, Aitana, Anahí, Elefante, entre muchos otros.
Como WAPEA, el dúo se estrena con un sencillo homónimo, una canción divertida que invita a bailar, que representa los ideales interculturales detrás de este proyecto musical único. El nombre

WAPEA"
tiene un significado poderoso, ya que también es un léxico caribeño que significa "trabájalo, haz lo tuyo", un mantra que habla de lo que estos músicos quieren difundir en el mundo. Su filosofía fue inspirada por la estrella afrolatina Cardi B, específicamente en su realidad y su audacia de ser quien es, independientemente de lo que digan los demás.

La mezcla cultural que Barreto y Tong traen a WAPEA se refleja profundamente en su sonido. Para este primer corte, combinaron los ritmos caribeños con una estrofa de una melodía popular china titulada "Carreras de caballos", que se reproduce en el erhu (violín chino de 2 cuerdas). Esta fusión crea un nuevo producto musical fascinante, vibrante y diferente a lo que el público ha escuchado antes.
El video musical de esta revolucionaria canción fue dirigido por Benji Estrada, quien ha trabajado con importantes artistas como Carla Morrison y Natalia Lafourcade. Este sencillo será lanzado a través de

Barreto and Tong started working as a producer-songwriter collective in 2012 under the name of

, the duo debuts with a self-titled single, a fun and dance-inducing track that represents the cross-cultural ideals behind this unique musical project. The name
“WAPEA”
carries an empowering meaning, as it’s also Caribbean slang for
“work it, do ya thing,”
a mantra that speaks to what the musicians want to put out into the world. Their philosophy was inspired by Afro-Latina star Cardi B, more specifically her realness and fearlessness in being who she is regardless of what others say.
“She embodies the spirit of our group and what we aspire to be,”
said WAPEA about Cardi B.
The cultural mix that Barreto and Tong bring into WAPEA is profoundly reflected in their sound. For this first cut, they combined Caribbean rhythms with a line from an iconic Chinese folk tune titled
“Horse Racing,”
played on the erhu (Chinese 2-string fiddle). This fusion creates a fascinating and vibrant new musical product unlike anything audiences have heard before.
Benji Estrada, who’s worked with important acts such as Carla Morrison, and Natalia Lafourcade, directed the music video for this revolutionary party song. This single will be released via
