GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (Monday, May 31, 2021) – Twin Creek Racing Stables' Warrant trained by Brad Cox was up first to take the first running of the $300,000 Texas Derby. Under the guidance of Joel Rosario Warrant ($7.80), the post time favorite, raced five wide into the first turn, he then settled down the backstretch while still racing outside. He stayed wide through the final turn and when asked, took charge approaching the sixteenth pole. He was full of run and won going away late narrowly defeating Mr. Wireless. Third went to Rightandjust with Super Stock completing the superfecta. In fifth place was Dreamer's Disease followed by First Avenue, Scarred, Say It Ain't Soni, It's My House and Get Her Number.
Final time for the mile and sixteenth was 1:45.03 on a sloppy racetrack. Splits were 23.48, 47.15, 1:11.41 and 1:38.20.
This was the first stakes victory for the son of Constitution and second career win from a total of five starts. Career earnings are now $294,700. He is out of the First Samaurai mare, Whisper Number.
