ADDING LONG DURATION STORAGE TO OUR GROWING PORTFOLIO
In a milestone move, we joined six other community choice aggregators (CCAs) in a contract for 69 megawatts (MW) of long duration energy storage that will be built by 2026. Long duration storage stores energy for 8 hours or more and is considered a significant step towards achieving a carbon-free grid. When paired with renewable resources, long duration storage allows carbon-free power to be discharged to the grid for long periods when it is needed, helping solve concerns with the intermittency of renewables.
We are a member of California Community Power, the CCA Joint Powers Agency that negotiated the agreement with the project developer. By working with other CCAs on a larger project, we were able to get better pricing than we would have on our own.
California Community Power recently voted to enter into a second, 50 MW long-duration storage contract, which has an expected online date of 2025. The San José City Council will vote on our participation in this contract on May 3.
CCAs are ahead of the curve by combining their buying power to meet California's climate and reliability goals. California Community Power’s long duration energy storage procurements are largely seen by the industry as driving new markets for the technologies.

WE CARE ABOUT OUR CUSTOMERS
Electricity is a vital service. That’s why we secured over $4 million in state funding to help customers pay off electricity debt accrued during the pandemic. Relief comes in the form of a credit on your energy bill (known as the CAPP credit). We continue to advocate for more COVID relief funding to help customers recover and are reaching out to customers struggling to keep up with their payments and connecting them with resources.

HIGH FOSSIL FUEL PRICES SHOW NEED FOR
RENEWABLE ENERGY, SAVING ENERGY
If ever there was a moment to highlight the short- and long-term economic benefits of investing in renewables, now is it! Inflation, world conflict, supply chain issues, and shortages are contributing to higher fossil fuel costs such as natural gas and gasoline.
PG&E natural gas rates are up by about 90% over last year, which its spokespeople have attributed to high commodity costs. According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, in the short term, high fossil fuel costs are driving up electricity market prices. (Thanks, WATTson, for your energy savvy tips to save energy and money.)

MAKE THE SWITCH TO
ALL-ELETRIC
The future is electric! As electricity gets cleaner, stopping climate change means we will need to switch from powering transportation and buildings with fossil fuels to electricity. We are part of the Switch is On campaign which encourages homes to switch from gas to electric appliances like cooktops and space and water heating to improve air quality, lower energy costs, and reduce carbon footprints.
You can get rebates for adding electric appliances toward going all-electric, including a rebate of up to $1,800 for converting from a gas to electric water heater.
