Please join us as Jeffrey Gordon, Writers Boot Camp founder,
interviews director Liz Allen and rising stars Alison Becker and Shiri Appleby about the genesis and success of their web show "Dating Rules From My Future Self."

An empowering success story for any artist, actor, writer or filmmaker with plans to create their own material, the panel discussion will cover the origin of the concept, the internet production strategy and metrics of in the digital world, as well as the show's recent pickup for television.

About Our Speakers 

 

Writers Boot Camp alum and USC grad Liz Allen was awarded the Jack Nicholson Directing Scholarship as the most promising director of her class. Her Clio-nominated comedy EYEBALL EDDIE lead to her feature debut, AQUAMARINE.  Recently she released the Fox film RAMONA AND BEEZUS starring, Selena Gomez and Ginnifer Goodwin (among others), an adaptation of her favorite childhood book series by

She was the recipient of the WIN award for Best Female Director of the Year which has lead her to recently be attached to IS HE THE ONE, a Fox 2000 production, as well as the Elinor Lipman novel, The Pursuit of Alice Thrift for Universal and the indie film MY MOTHER'S BOYFRIEND.

  

Liz has written numerous screenplays, including an adaptation of Jerry Spinelli's children's book, STARGIRL (Paramount), original musical PROM DRESS (Disney) and DRIVING WHILE INFATUATED (Fox Searchlight). She has since directed television episodes of Gossip Girl, 90210, Life Unexpected, Franklin & Bash, and Vampire DiariesShe now adds to her credits the distinction of directing every episode of Dating Rules From My Future Self--one of the most successful online scripted series in history.  

    

Shiri Appleby (pictured below), producer and star of Dating Rules, has been acting since the age of four, landing jobs in several commercials for Cheerios, M&Ms, and Taco Bell. Her first television job was on the soap Santa Barbara. Next came various roles on thirtysomething, The Bronx Zoo and Doogie Howser MD 

 

After taking a break from acting to focus on her formal education, also at USC, Shiri garnered attention with her portrayal as a human girl in love with an alien boy on the WB hit show Roswell.

After playing Liz Parker for three years, she appeared in such films as SWIMFAN, UNDERTOW, and CHARLIE WILSON'S WAR amongst others. She also continued to appear on television in Six Degrees and ER before her next leading lady role as Cate Cassidy in the critically acclaimed CW family drama, Life Unexpected.  She will continue her work on the Dating Rules for its second season run, this time directing for the very first time. This summer Shiri will join the cast of TNT's law comedy, Franklin and Bash, in a recurring role.  






Alison Becker
(pictured below, right) is a comedian, actor and writer Alison plays Shauna Malwae-Tweep on NBC's Parks and Recreation and Kelcy in the above mentioned Dating Rules From My Future Self.  Recently she played Sarah Morton on ESPN's Emmy nominated webseries, Mayne Street with Kenny Mayne.

A performer at the Upright Citizens Brigade for years, she has recently created a new webseries titled You Snooze, You Lose which will be released soon. Alison hosted literally hundreds of television shows from The Daily Habit on Fuel TV to shows on MTV, truTV, National Lampoon and on VH1 where she VJ-ed her own weekly show.  Alison has also appeared on Californication, Late Night with Conan O'Brien, FX's The League, IFC's fan favorite Z Rock, several Law & Orders, Aaron Sorkin's new HBO show The Newsroom, and in the feature film THE OTHER GUYS
