WBJC continues our commitment to bringing you the music you want to hear. We have striven to present the best in Classical Music programming in 2017. We don't use playlists or computer algorithms;  our hosts program their shows using their expertise and extensive musical knowledge

This year, WBJC has:

  • Served nearly 200,000 listeners per week.

  • Broadcast the Metropolitan Opera, LA Opera, San Francisco Opera, Lyric Opera of ChicagoCaramoor, and Opera Southwest.  WBJC is your place for opera year-round.

  • Featured exceptional holiday programs like A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols, Christmas with Baltimore Choral Arts, the WBJC Klezmer Special and New Year’s Day from Vienna. And we keep adding more!

Earle Havens is the guest on Booknotes this month. He is a Curator of Rare Books and Manuscripts at Johns Hopkins University’s Sheridan Libraries, and talks about a special Biblomania exhibition at the Peabody Library.

BSO Family Concert - A Christmas Carol : Follow the story of Ebenezer Scrooge and his journeys with the ghosts of Christmas past, present and future. Musical selections include Vaughan Williams’ Fantasia on Greensleeves, Tippett’s Suite in D and Jeff Tyzik’s Holiday Moods.  Saturday, December 9, 11 a.m. at the Meyerhoff.

BSO Handel’s Messiah : A perennial favorite and BSO tradition, no holiday season is complete without the magnitude and sheer joy of the “Hallelujah" chorus. Performed annually since 1982, the BSO’s beloved Messiah with Edward Polochick has become a staple of the season.  Saturday, December 9, 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, December 10 , 3 p.m. at the Meyerhoff. 

BSO Home for the Holidays : Thomas Wilkins, Principal Conductor of the Hollywood Bowl, conducts iconic classics including "We Need a Little Christmas," "Hark! the Herald Angels Sing," Sleigh Ride and "O Holy Night." Acclaimed soprano Alison Buchanan illuminates this program of holiday favorites, also featuring the Baltimore School for the Arts tap-dancing Santas.  Saturday, December 16, 3 and 8 p.m. and Sunday, December 17, 3 p.m. at the Meyerhoff.

BSO Cirque de las Symphonie Holiday Spectacular : The jaw-dropping magic of Cirque comes to the c oncert hall as the BSO musicians who dazzle you on stage are joined by acrobats, contortionists, jugglers, balancers, strongmen and high-flying aerialists from above.  Saturday, December 22, 8 p.m. and Sunday, December 23, 3 and 8 p.m. at the Meyerhoff.
