Administrator Note
Dear World Compass Academy Community,
This year has been a challenge on many fronts, but we are grateful to be part of a supportive community that has pulled together to ensure our students have continued to grow and learn. More than ever before the home/school partnership has been instrumental and we thank-you for the many sacrifices you have made as a parent community to support students, teachers, and learning. Although we are looking forward to the new year, a hopeful decline in the prevalence COVID-19, a slow return to normal, and quite simply reaching a point where we don't have to go to the store with a piece of cloth plastered to the face; we hope to preserve the civil discourse, strength, and compassion that have been widely modeled at our school this Fall.
Having the opportunity to interact with and learn from each of your children is a gift. Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to support the growth of your student this Fall. We wish you a joyous holiday season.
Warm Regards,
Bethany, Krista, and Amanda

Acts of Kindness: Raise Craze Success Story
|
|
The Raise Craze fundraiser was amazing for this WCA family. The kids brainstormed ideas on things they could do to make people feel loved and seen.
- They made a basket to go outside our door full of goodies for the ups people that deliver to our house regularly.
- They painted beautiful rocks to be spread out to bring joy.
- They picked up litter and wrote sweet notes to everyone they could think of.
- Their biggest idea and project that they finished tonight was making care packages for the fire station and the police station.
Thank you Boyd Family for sharing your fun and the joy you brought into this fundraiser.

In early December, Mrs. Carloss taught the 4th graders to build a solar oven. Ovens use heat to make a change. Can the light from the sun be used as the heat source in the same way?
Students were given a pizza box (the oven) and other items to make their oven work. Students were excited to see how hot they could get their oven. Was it hot enough to melt butter or maybe melt a crayon? What a wonderful lesson Mrs. Carloss. The students just love science class.
Thank you to the local Papa John's Pizza Restaurant for donating the boxes for this science experiment. We are one community working together.

Events Around Our Community

|
On December 13th, the first grade teachers joined Santa to deliver books to first grade students, all across Castle Rock and beyond. They had a great time seeing many of their students in a socially distanced fashion. The teachers hope the students enjoy their new books and have a wonderful holiday season!

Do you wonder how covid is affecting our school? You can find weekly updates on the WCA COVID-19 Tracking Summary, located on the main page of our website, as well as under my page. COVID-19 Tracking Summary
As we approach the winter holidays, it’s important to think about the best ways to keep our loved ones and communities safe during our celebrations. This year is an opportunity to reimagine what togetherness can look like. Help slow the alarming spread of COVID-19 with these 3 things:
- Only interact in-person with people from your household (defined as those who normally live and sleep under the same roof).
- Refrain from traveling. Celebrate virtually with the people who don’t live with you.
- Avoid crowded stores.
- Shop for gifts online and have them delivered or pick them up curbside.
-
Find local Colorado businesses to support via the #ShopLocalColorado campaign.
- Wear a mask and keep your distance whenever you do leave your home.
Just because we keep physical distance doesn’t mean we have to be distant in other ways. Please check out the link below with holiday tips to make those closest to you feel loved, while making sure they stay healthy for many more seasons to come. Holiday
At WCA we strive to provide our community with Full transparency - Colorado Department of Public Health & Education (CDPHE) listed WCA as an outbreak in November on the CDPHE website. It's updated each Wednesday after the weekly outbreak surveillance report is published. https://covid19.colorado.gov/covid19-outbreak-data
