Administrator Note
Dear World Compass Academy Community,
Welcome back! We are so happy to have students back in the building.
We know that temporary remote learning is a heavy and time-consuming responsibility, and we appreciate the perseverance, sacrifice, and positive attitude of our community during the last several weeks.
While we were in temporary remote learning, there have been several changes and developments:
First, we are excited to share that your students are coming back to a safer building. In December, World Compass Academy was awarded a $95,000 grant to purchase and install a Needle Point Bi-polar Ionization (NPBI) system in our schools. NPBI reduces airborne particles through agglomeration and filtration, kills pathogens by starving them of the essential hydrogen molecule, reduces odors, and saves energy for the facility by reducing the amount of outdoor air required and reducing fan energy used. In addition, this product has also been recently tested directly on SARS-CoV-2 with results showing promising effectiveness. This system is used in places like Johns Hopkins, Children's Hospital Boston and the University of Maryland Medical Center. We are hopeful that this system will help keep us in school as yet another risk mitigation strategy against the COVID-19 virus.
Second, as many of you are aware, the Colorado Department of Health and the Environment (CDPHE) has revised COVID-19 school recommendations. World Compass Academy is following CDPHE guidance. Families who are interested in the guidance can review it here.
Finally, we now have three building subs who will help support staff absences. This school year many vacancies across the state are going unfilled as there is a substitute shortage coupled with increased absences due to COVID quarantines and illness. Having substitutes familiar with the school and able to quickly push into classrooms will provide more consistent and stable coverage and ultimately better learning for students when teachers are out.
We are hopeful that these developments will help make our winter and spring experience healthy and positive for our community.
Warm Regards,
Bethany, Krista, and Amanda

Parent Volunteers:
We are asking for a parent volunteer to assist in the library every Friday, 10-3. Parents may volunteer for the entire time or a portion thereof. The work would consist of shelving and checking-in books. As a school, we have been very cognizant of operating under a cohort model. In order to maintain cohort integrity, we would respectfully ask the parent volunteer limit their time to the library and would not be able to visit their child's classroom or other areas of the school. If you are willing to help, please email kim.reifschneider@worldcompassacademy.com

Cognitive Abilities Testing
|
|
As part of the DCSD Universal Screening process and our commitment to equitable identification for gifted programming, DCSD will administer the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT 7) during the weeks of Feb. 8 - March 5, 2021. This assessment indicates the level and pattern of cognitive development of a student in comparison to grade and age mates. Please see below for specific information based on your child’s current grade. If your student is in the permanent remote learning program please look for an email from Kate Parker to participate.
2nd Grade Universal Screen
- As part of this process, ALL students in 2nd grade who have not been identified for gifted programming will take the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) the weeks of February 8th and 15th. This assessment indicates the level and pattern of cognitive development of a student in comparison to grade and age mates. These general reasoning abilities, which start developing at birth and continue through early adulthood, are influenced by experiences gained both in and out of school.
- If your child is already identified for gifted programming, they will not participate in this universal screen testing. Your Gifted Education Facilitator will contact you directly with more detailed information about this process.
Gifted Identification Referral Testing
- If your child is in grades K, 1, 3, 4, 5 and you believe he/she needs evaluation for Gifted Identification and Services, you may refer your child for testing by initiating the Gifted Identification Process.
-
Please reach out to Kate Parker for more information about the referral process or to request CogAT Testing.
- All referrals must be received by Monday, February 1st

The CDC has published new 2021 quarantine guidelines. Tri-County Health and CDPHE have adopted these new guidelines. Here is what you need to know. CDC currently recommends a quarantine period of 14 days. However, based on local circumstances and resources, the following options to shorten quarantine are acceptable alternatives:
-
INSIDE World Compass Academy school environment.
If a cohort or the WCA needs to quarantine due to an exposure of COVID-19 in the school, World Compass Academy is adopting the 10 day quarantine recommendation.
-
OUTSIDE World Compass Academy school environment (If you or a family member is exposed to COVID-19 outside of the school environment):
- Quarantine for 14 days is recommended as best practice.
-
Quarantine can end after Day 10 without testing and if no symptoms have been reported during daily monitoring.
-
Quarantine can end after Day 7 if a diagnostic tests negative and if no symptoms were reported during daily monitoring.
- The test needs to be collected on day 5 -7 of the quarantine.
- Results of the negative test need to be shared with the school nurse.
- The quarantine cannot be discontinued earlier than after Day 7.
In both the inside and outside cases, continued symptom monitoring and masking through Day 14 must be met. When to quarantine link
