Dear WCA Community,
WOW! What a Book Fair! A heartfelt thank you for your support in making this our most successful Book Fair in WCA's history!!! Because of your generosity, the profits from the Book Fair will be used to add hundreds of new books to our library circulation for our students to enjoy!!
I also must give a BIG thank you to our parent volunteers. The Book Fair would not have run as smoothly as it did without each and everyone of you who gave your personal time to come and help. You kept me going with latte's and soda's throughout each day!
It is my pleasure to spend library time with your children!
Fondly,
Mrs. Arghhhhh (My pirate name the students gave me!)

DCSD is committed to implementing equitable practices to increase access to advanced/gifted learning opportunities. Based on state and national recommendations and requirements, we implement Universal Screening for students in 2nd grade (February) and 6th grade (November).
5th/6th Grade Universal Screen
As part of this process, ALL students in 6th grade not identified for gifted programming will take the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) the week of November 6th. This assessment indicates the level and pattern of cognitive development of a student in comparison to grade and age mates. These general reasoning abilities, which start developing at birth and continue through early adulthood, are influenced by experiences gained both in and out of school.
If your child is already identified for gifted programming, they will not participate in this universal screen testing. Your Gifted Education Facilitator will contact you directly with information about this process.
Gifted Identification Referral Testing
-
If your child is in grades 3, 4, and 5 and you believe they need evaluation for Gifted Identification and Services, you may refer your child for testing by initiating the Gifted Identification Process.
- NOTE: Requesting this assessment automatically initiates the process to evaluate for Gifted Identification.
-
Please request CogAT testing for your child by reaching out to our gifted facilitator, Kate Parker, for more information and the referral form. All requests for CogAT testing must be received no later than Monday, October 23rd.

Middle School: Interested in High School Options
WCA welcomes many of the local high schools to our school each year for information sessions. These sessions inform students and parents on different options the high schools in our area offer. These sessions are recorded and published along with the slide deck presentation from each high school. Here is the link to view them. Expand the link to see new high schools as they are added.

Mandarin Class
The Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Moon Festival Festival, is a harvest festival celebrated in Chinese culture. This evening celebration allows families to gather together to light lanterns, eat moon cakes and appreciate the round moon. The festival is a time to enjoy the reaping of rice and wheat with food offerings made in honor of the moon. Jing Xu's students created class art work based on this celebration!

Congratulations to our new Cougar Committee!!
Cougar Committee is World Compass Academy's Middle School Student Council. Each year Middle School students run a campaign with posters and give a speech during an assembly stating why they should be voted into office. These students were elected by their peers to serve as officers in the Cougar Committee for the 2023-2024 school year.

There are fun things happening during Hispanic Heritage Month at WCA.
To celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, Senorita Weber's 3rd grade class drew Frida Kahlo inspired self portraits. Mexican artist Frida Kahlo is remembered for her self-portraits that used bold & vibrant colors.
Our 1st graders are amazing painters. To celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, Senorita Garcia's Class painted Amate Bark style paintings. Amate Bark is Mexican Folk Art that depicts brightly colored scenes of daily life, history or nature.
| |
Senorita Weber's 2nd grade class drew portraits of Frida Kahlo. These guided drawings of Frida Kahlo mimic her style of art using bold and vibrant colors.
