Community College Month

Exciting Things Are Happening at WCCC.

The campus is bustling with students signing up for summer and fall classes!

The Board looks forward to keeping you informed regarding the exciting things that are taking place at the College!

Top Actions at the Last Board Meeting
Since 1981, Warren County Community College has been an example of excellence in education and we’ve had more than 40 years to perfect it. See what we mean – here are a few Great Things enacted to serve our community at the April Meeting.
April 2019 Board Briefs
  1. Essential Piece of the Puzzle Award

Trustee Peter Schmidt presented Mindy Marinelli-Morgan with the Essential Piece of the Puzzle Award at the April Board meeting. She was nominated for the award by Barbara Pratt, VP of Finance and Operations.

Mindy has worked at the College since 1996, receiving her Associate in Science, Business Management, Accounting degree in 2001. She has worked in the Business office for over 20 years, and is now the Student Accounts Manager.

The Board congratulated Mindy for her continued excellence in her position at the College.




2 . Chair Academy

Dr. Austin updated the Board on the recent presentation that both he and Dr. Linfante gave at the Chair Academy conference this past March.




3. American Association of Community Colleges

Dr. Austin shared a video shown at the recent AACC convention held this past April in Orlando, Florida with the Board that highlighted Dr. Austin's career as he was honored with an award for his three years of service on the AACC Board. Dr. Austin was presented with the award in recognition of his outstanding service as a AACC Board officer.

 Alpha Upsilon Rho chapter advisor Jean Vasko updated the Board on the chapter's attendance at the 2019 Phi Theta Kappa Catalyst convention in Orlando April 4-6th, 2019.

Ms. Vasko and VP of Leadership Arleen Molina attended the convention during which time they participated in many workshops dealing with topics to enhance the Chapter's five star status.

Ms. Vasko informed the Board that chapter officers nominated Alumni Trustee Dorothy Helmken for a PTK Alumni Award of Distinction, which she received. The Board congratulated Ms. Helmken on her award.
5.Board Retreat Update

The Board of Trustees held their annual retreat meeting on Saturday, March 23rd at the College.

Dr. Linfante and Board members reviewed the many topics discussed during the retreat including Board/Chair/Presidential evaluations,review of ACCT Board presentations, the Board Calendar, the 2025 Strategic Plan, and the 2019 Commencement schedule.

Dr. Aaron Fichtner, President of the New Jersey Council of Community Colleges was an honored guest at the retreat. Dr. Fichtner discussed the NJCCC's Visions 2028 effort with Board members.

Dr. Fichtner highlighted that the New Jersey Council of County Colleges(NJCCC), working with the state’s 19 community colleges, launched the Vision 2028 effort to develop a bold vision for the future.They obtained input from over 500 community college leaders and stakeholders through more than 20 meetings, a statewide Leadership Summit, and through online comments from more than 180 members of the community college community, including students, alumni, trustees, faculty, staff, and others.

6. Board of Trustees Informational Tours/ Great Things Happening at WCCC Update

Dr. Austin, Dr. Linfante, and Board members are in the process of attending Municipal Town Council meetings throughout the county. Board members are sharing the great things Warren County Community College has to offer with community members. The Board has attended meetings in Liberty, Washington Township, Frelinghuysen and Blairstown.

Chairman Linfante, President Austin and Trustees have received extremely positive feedback at the meetings and look forward to continuing their journey throughout the county.
7.Educationally Speaking
Dr. Phil Linfante filled in for President Austin on the Educationally Speaking radio show at WRNJ Wednesday, March 17th. Dr. Linfante informed Board members that the program, which highlighted the stories of three graduating students, was very successful.

Allan Martinez, President of the Alpha Upsilon Rho chapter of PTK and Tolulope Arogundade,the 2019 student commencement speaker joined Dr. Linfante and Joyce Estey at WRNJ. Adolfo Vargara joined in the conversation by phone. The students shared their individual journeys that brought them to the College and their future plans.
8. New Trustee Appointment


The Board welcomed Dr. Rosalie Lamonte to the Warren County Community College Board of Trustees. Dr. Rosalie Lamonte was sworn in at the Board's annual retreat meeting March 23rd. Dr. Lamonte currently serves as the Interim Executive County Superintendent for Warren County.

9. Foundation
Update
Samir Elbassiouny informed the Board that the Warren County Hall of Fame will be celebrating its 10th Anniversary on November 16, 2019.

Nominations are currently being accepted for the class of 2019.

April Community College Month

Dr. Phil Linfante,
Board Chair
I n 1985 Congress authorized and requested then President Ronald Reagan to issue Proclamation 5418 establishing a National Community College Month .

The Board passed a resolution at the Board of Trustees meeting designating April as Warren County Community College Month. This resolution highlights the many accomplishments and great things happening at the College.

In addition, Dr. Linfante shared with the Board that, through his work with the NJCCC, all NJ Legislatures and Municipalities are being asked to designate April as Community College Month.

The next Board of Trustees Meeting will be held at the College on
Saturday, May 18, 2019
prior to WCCC's Thirty-Second Commencement at 11:00am.
