Exciting Things Are Happening This Spring!

The campus is bustling with new, transfer and continuing students!

The Board looks forward to keeping you informed regarding the exciting things that will be taking place at the College in the next few months!

Top Actions at the Last Board Meeting
Since 1981, Warren County Community College has been an example of excellence in education and we’ve had more than 40 years to perfect it. See what we mean – here are a few Great Things enacted to serve our community at the December Board Meeting.
December 2018 Board Briefs
  1. New Drone Programs

The Board passed resolutions to offer the following new drone programs at the College:

Associate in Applied Science Degree in Unmanned Aerial Systems

Certificate in Drone Pilot

Certificate in Drone Repair and Maintenance.

2 . Community College Opportunity Grant Implementation.

Dr. Austin discussed with the Board the various marketing strategies from the intensive social media campaign to billboard placement currently in place to connect with eligible students throughout Warren County. Currently, thanks to its unique dual enrollment strategy, WCCC is the only college experiencing real growth in enrollment and service statewide.















3. Washington Annex Dedication

Board Members and elected officials including NJ Senator Michael Doherty, Assemblyman John DiMaio, Freeholder Director Edward Smith, Freeholder Deputy Director Jason Sarnoski, and Freeholder Richard Gardner were in attendance at the Washington Annex Dedication held on December 19, 2018.

Attendees were given tours of the lecture hall, state-of-the art computer lab, faculty offices, ADA facilities, and student meeting areas.

4. Cengage Unlimited

Tired of the high cost of college textbooks?

The Board discussed the upcoming Spring implementation of Cengage that will provide subscription services to enrolled students in Spring 2019.

5.Hall of Fame Dedication

Samir Elbassiouny updated the Board on the Foundation's recent Hall of Fame dedication/ribbon cutting that took place on November 21, 2018.

Warren County Hall of Fame Alumni, New Inductees, and various County Elected Officials attended the Dedication Ceremony.

The Hall is dedicated to past and future community members who have and continue to make valued contributions to the Warren County Community.


6. Board of Trustees Informational Tours/ Great Things Happening at WCCC


Dr. Austin and Dr. Linfante discussed the success of the county wide Board of Education meetings that the Board of Trustees have so far attended.

Dr. Austin, Dr. Linfante and numerous Board members have been reaching out in the community to share all the exciting programs and opportunities that are available at the College. At this time, the feedback from their visits has been extremely positive.

They will be attending additional Board of Education meetings throughout December and January. In the spring and fall, Dr. Austin, Dr. Linfante, and Board members will be attending Municipal Board meeting throughout the county to inform and share what Warren County Community College has to offer with community members.
7. Essential Piece of the Puzzle Recognition

December 2018

Eve Azar, VP of Corporate and Continuing Education, was presented with the Award by Dr. Linfante for her outstanding dedication in the promotion and implementation of Corporate and Continuing Education for the College.

Ms. Azar was very appreciative of the honor and thanked Dr. Linfante and the Board for the recognition.

8.Strategic Plan Updates

College Administrators presented their yearly updates to the Board in regard to the College's Strategic Plan.

Presenters included Dr. Marianne VanDeursen, VP Academics, Jeremy Beeler, VP Student Services, Eve Azar, VP Corporate & Continuing Education, Sharon Hintz, Dir. of Human Resources, Dennis Florentine, Dean of Administration, and Barbara Pratt, VP Finance & Operations. Administrators highlighted the many successful goal completions since they last updated the Board.

The Board thanked the Administrators for their dedication and hard work in the implementation of the Strategic Plan.



9. Sigma Chi Eta Award





Karen Hillyer, Associate Professor of Communications at the College presented Julie Corman with Sigma Chi Eta's Student of the Year Award at the December Board Meeting.

Sigma Chi Eta is the official community college honor society of the National Communication Association (NCA).

This award recognizes an outstanding student member who has dedicated his/her time, energy, and service to their chapter and has best manifested the goals of Sigma Chi Eta .
 
Julie Corman is the 2018 Student of the Year recipient; she was chosen from the students nominated from the 40 community colleges affiliated with the national organization. She graduated in May 2018 with an Associate’s in Liberal Arts, Communication.

The Board congratulated Ms. Corman on her award and wished her much success.

NJCCC Legislative
Updates

Dr. Phil Linfante,
Board Chair
Dr. Linfante, as Statewide Chairperson of the NJCCC Legislative Committee, discussed various legislation being considered by the Assembly, Senate and Governor.

In November, Dr. Linfante was appointed statewide chair of the New Jersey Council of County Colleges.
