The Tuesday Trauma Training Series is intended to build a more trauma informed community in Worcester. We prefer to do the series live but are learning ways to feel connected during this time of being homebound. It is meant to build knowledge about the impact trauma has on individuals and in communities throughout the life cycle. Local experts will share an aspect of trauma and resilience. When we better understand specific traumatic experiences and build trauma informed systems, we will reap the benefits of a more connected and nurturing community. Presenters will take audience questions in the live zoom, and the presentation will be digitally achieved for sharing and on demand viewing. More details to come of upcoming sessions. The MA Department of Transitional Assistance:
As you may be aware, DTA recently received approval from the USDA to join the SNAP online purchasing program. We are excited to announce that as of today, May 29, Massachusetts residents can use their SNAP benefits to buy food online at Amazon and Walmart. Read today’s Press Release here . DTA worked quickly with our EBT vendor to set this up. This option promotes equity and safety for our residents receiving SNAP benefits, allowing low-income households access to the same purchasing choices as other shoppers.
To help spread the word, DTA has launched a new website: Mass.gov/SNAPonline . The website contains a one-page flyer (English/Spanish, more languages to come), FAQ (English/Spanish), sample social media posts and more. Check it out and please share the materials!
DTA supports the expansion of this program to more retailers, increasing access for MA residence and communities. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) approves all retailers. If you know of any retailers interested in joining, please refer them to the USDA's website

What has been YOUR experience living through the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic?
The City of Worcester, Central Massachusetts Regional Public Health Alliance and the University of Massachusetts Medical School are inviting everyone who lives in the Worcester area to take an online survey.
The purpose of the survey is to learn more about how the Coronavirus (COVID-19) is affecting the lives of people who live in the Worcester area. We will use this information to help plan programs and services. Your answers will remain anonymous. We are all in this together!
Please take the survey if you live in: Worcester, Shrewsbury, Holden, Grafton, Millbury, Leicester or West Boylston.
The survey will be available in multiple languages. If English is not your preferred language please check back soon.
You may answer the survey for yourself or for someone you take care of. Please click on the link below that is best for you:

F rom Gina Plato Nino of The Central West Justice Center on Public Benefit Updates:
  • Food assistance in Worcester:
  • WTG has organized a system to assist families with food insecurity through the FRC. Please share with us any food resources your organization may have so that we can let people know. Please fill in your information here.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1BenPSEMoOuozxFuWU1D9T8wrTuKga0ne/view?usp=sharing
  • Pandemic SNAP-
  • P-EBT benefits are extra money to buy food for households with students who would have received free and reduced-priced school meals, but have been unable to due to school closures.
  • https://drive.google.com/file/d/1-MUfvlMwqQDv3QS6im9U8O1NBG5m4bW2/view?usp=sharing
  • Families do not need to “apply” for P-EBT, but they do need to be approved for SNAP, approved for free/reduced-price free meals, or be in a CEP school district.
  • Households with eligible children will be receiving $5.70 per student per day of school closure.
  • P-EBT benefits can be spent in the same way as SNAP.
  • P-EBT benefits are available to eligible households regardless of immigration status and are not considered for public charge.
  • Current DTA households will get their P-EBT benefits on their existing EBT card.
  • Non-DTA households will be mailed a preloaded P-EBT card per student. A letter will be mailed first and then the card. See attached flyer from project bread for more questions.
  • Please check MA P-EBT website. It has excellent client fliers (in multiple languages) and additional resources for schools, retailers, public officials. To access flyers in different languages please click on the Partners link.

  • Rent Assistance
  • Please remind folks that the eviction moratorium does not mean people do not have to pay to their rent. It is very important they speak to their landlord. If they have arrears they can contact CMHA at hc@cmhaonline.org or call 508-791-7265 ext. 172.

  • Reminder No SNAP 3-month time limit for ABAWDs!
  • The 3 month time limit on the “able bodied without dependents” (ABAWD) population was effectively suspended April 1 due to COVID-19, thanks to a provision in the Families First Act.
  • How you can help:
  • Any 18-50 year olds living with SNAP households but not getting SNAP should be put on the household’s benefit. You can help flag those cases for DTA and ask to have them included in the household's SNAP benefit. The household can make the request through DTA Connect (upload a statement asking to put XYZ onto the case; or you can call the DTA Ombuds at 617-348-5354 or DTA Assistance Line for the client.
  • Any 18-50 year old living alone, whether or not they got SNAP before, should file a SNAP application. Even if an individual “timed out” in the past, they can apply for SNAP now. And if they have their old EBT card, that can be reactivated (no need for a new EBT card unless defective).

  • Reminder you can apply for cash benefits on line and via phone- see attached flyers.
  • https://drive.google.com/file/d/1_ToN_d3IjWfb8MbyoQHoFL9fIAOgfGv2/view?usp=sharing
  • SNAP is a great program but it can only be used to purchase food. We know our families are struggling to make rent payments and buy hygiene products. If you have low income families please encourage them to apply for cash benefits.
  • Transitional Aid to Families with Dependent Children (TAFDC) and a state cash program called Emergency Aid to Elders, Disabled and Children (EAEDC). These program s provide small cash allowances to help pay for basic needs.
  • You can apply online: DTAConnect.org
  • Telephone : Call your local DTA office: Worcester: 508-767-3100, Fitchburg: 978-665-8700, Southbridge : 508-765-2400

  • New automated ways to request EBT card
  • DTA has created 2 automated ways to request a card (options without having to talk to a worker) - via the Assistance Line or the DTAConnect.com online portal (not the mobile app). For clients who need a card, we highly recommend requesting a card via these options where possible. Please continue sharing cases where folks are not able to access their benefits because they have not yet gotten an EBT card. We are worried about these families.
  • Go to DTAConnect.com and request an EBT card through logging on to the online portal. under 'My Info', click “view more” and then click on Request an EBT Card.
  • Follow the prompts for reporting a lost/stolen EBT card on the DTA Assistance Line (once entered SSN and year of birth).

  • CLA/CWJC videos
  • Every Thursday at 11:00 am we will be posting short videos for our clients to watch on our CWJC Facebook page. We will be providing information on SNAP, TAFDC/EAEDC, Unemployment, Housing, etc. We will be answering general questions while the video is airing. https://www.facebook.com/cwjusticecenter/

  • CLA Unemployment Project
  • o CLA has started a project, using trained volunteers, including lawyers and law students, to file claims for people not able to manage the process on their own.
  • For assistance with filing an online Unemployment Insurance claim, CALL 855-CLA-LEGAL (852-252-5342) OR apply online https://communitylegal.org/get-help/how-get-help. Someone from CLA will contact you.

  • Gig economy workers, self employed workers, and others can now file for unemployment in Mass.
  • Workers can now file for Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) through DUA at Mass.gov/PUA. Many workers who were not eligible under regular UI ARE eligible for PUA. For example:
  • Self-employed individuals, including gig workers, freelancers, and independent contractors (e.g. uber/lyft drivers)
  • Those seeking part-time employment
  • Those with insufficient work history to qualify for regular UI
  • All workers who get UI- either through the regular UI program or through PUA - should get $600/week on top of their base UI amount. This $600/week payment will continue until the end of July. For a guide on UI and to learn more, visit: Masslegalhelp.org/covid-19-unemployment

One Worcester
Free Webinar: Immigration Law and Policy for Nonprofit Leaders Responding to COVID 19
Join ONE Worcester's Board Chair, Attorney Alex Mooradian, for a free webinar on immigration law and policy affecting vulnerable immigrant populations in Worcester County. The COVID 19 pandemic has brought new challenges to those our nonprofit community serves, including those who are undocumented and/or living in mixed-status households. The pandemic has also added some complexity and urgency to certain humanitarian claims such as asylum and immigrant juvenile status. On Thursday, June 4, at 1PM, Attorney Mooradian will present for 40 minutes and then conduct a live Q&A via Zoom, covering:
--Impacts of COVID 19 on immigration benefits
--Fears that clients and constituents have about accepting public benefits (and dispelling rumors)
--Resources for employment, food, shelter, counseling, legal, and social support for immigrants in Worcester County
--Humanitarian benefits such as asylum, DACA, TPS, and Special Immigrant Juvenile Status, and when to refer to an attorney.

This program is designed for non-profit leaders and community stakeholders that work with immigrant populations (no legal expertise necessary).

Attorney Mooradian is the Board Chair at ONE Worcester. He is a Partner at Glickman, Sugarman, Kneeland and Gribouski, focusing on family-based and humanitarian immigration law. Mooradian has represented many refugees, asylum-seekers, immigrant juveniles, and immigrants using family-based visas before the Boston Immigration Court, USCIS (local and appeals offices), the Federal District Court, the Board of Immigration Appeals, and the Trial Courts of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

The Grandparents Commission:
The GP Commission is working with a team at UMass to develop regional roundtables to support grandparents and relative caregivers. In the development of this work, the team created a survey to get a sense of what topics would be good for discussion during these meetings. The roundtables will be for providers, agencies, and support group facilitators – not the grandparents. The roundtables are to coordinate information, share information and resources, and identify gaps in services in different regions throughout the state.
If you could take 2 minutes to complete the survey below we would be grateful.

We have had more than 2,000 responses to the English version , and now we want to boost the Spanish responses. Please share with your networks if you can, and let me know if you have any questions.
I would like to share information about our virtual RPC workshop (Resource Parent Curriculum), that is starting on June 2 nd
This will be the third virtual RPC group that CTTC have launched since the beginning of COVID-19 crisis. Our goal is to support families caring for children who have experienced trauma, which is especially needed during times of social crisis. Two groups are currently running during the day time. In addition, due to many caregivers not having a childcare during the day, we are now offering an evening group. We also continue accepting referrals for further groups and will determine the time based on participants’ availability.

To summarize, the next group will start on June 2 nd , and will be held every Tuesday from 7 to 9 pm via Zoom.

Short survey, a raffle and you!
Everyone is using telehealth these days, right? How is it working out for families? We want YOU to tell us.
PPAL just put up a pop up survey to find out. What's a pop up survey? it's just 21 questions, takes 10 minutes or less and will only be up for 2-3 weeks.
Plus there is a raffle for 2 winners each week who get a $20 Amazon gift card each.
Telehealth refers to how health care providers can use technology to provide care and services. It replaces a face to face visit with an appointment by phone, video (Skype or Zoom, for instance). It is not remote learning, which is for school.
Take the survey here and be sure to click the link for the raffle at the end.
If you know a young person ages 14-30 who'd like to take a separate survey just for them have them click here . There is also a separate raffle just for them.

Facilitating Sex Education – Thursday, May 7 from 2:00-3:30pm EST
This webinar will provide sexuality educators – those new to teaching and those looking for a refresher – foundational skills for teaching sex education. This webinar will cover the importance of using a trauma-informed lens and intentional language, facilitation skills helpful in the sex ed classroom, values as they pertain to teaching sex ed, and establishing group rights with students. Participants will leave this webinar with an increase in knowledge and comfort to successfully teach sexuality education, and the webinar will include discussion about the unique challenges of teaching sex ed online.
Working with Parents – Thursday, May 21 from 3:00-4:00pm EST
Research supports that children who have frequent and open conversations with their parents about sex and sexuality are more likely to make healthy and responsible decisions about sex. And we know that engaging parents as the primary sexuality educators of their own children can be difficult. During this one hour webinar, educators will have an opportunity to build empathy with parents and to examine some of the challenges of engaging parents. Educators will also practice ways to overcome some of these challenges and leave with concrete tips on how to answer parent questions and concerns confidently and effectively.
While anyone can register for these two webinars free of charge, we are asking all who are willing and able to consider paying the typical $25 registration fee for attending a webinar. This contribution helps ensure our ability to continue producing and offering professional development opportunities for you, especially in the current climate.

The IRS has issued a special alert today for several groups of federal benefit recipients to act by THIS WEDNESDAY, APRIL 22nd , if they didn't file a tax return in 2018 or 2019 and have dependents so they can quickly receive the full amount of their Economic Impact Payment.
For those recipients with children who aren't require to file a tax return, an extra step is needed to quickly add $500 per eligible child onto their automatic payment of $1,200. Update from the Central Region Workforce Board:
Workforce partners – I apologize if you get this email multiple times, but just wanted to make sure you’ve seen the information below regarding a new phone-based app called JobGet that we’ve partnered with. This tool allows employers and job seekers to connect in real-time to streamline hiring (especially for positions in which companies normally don’t need to utilize full resumes, such as many hourly positions). We ask that you help spread the word to job seekers and companies to register at no cost using these referral codes:
•        Job seekers: mhcentral
•        Employers: mhcentralhire

I am also attaching a flyer regarding a new free online intro to pharmacy tech program we are offering at no cost in partnership with CVS that we hope you will share with anyone that may be interested and eligible.

WORCESTER CHILD DEVELOPMENT - HEAD START PROGRAM/WPS

Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts (PPLM) has a multi-pronged approach to care during this time:
  • • Our health centers are still providing essential services, including medication and surgical abortion, urgent gynecological needs, and PEP for HIV prevention, while operating on a limited schedule. We are pre-screening patients and staff for COVID-19 symptoms and taking significant precaution in delivering care. Additionally, we will not be accepting walk-ins for the time being and are only accepting appointments made via telephone at 800-258-4448.
  • • Our providers are now offering tele health services through a private and secure video conferencing platform. Through tele health appointments, PPLM can provide contraception/birth control, some problem-based care, gender affirming hormone therapy and self-injection training, PrEP, and PEP follow-up visits. These services are available to new and existing PPLM patients. To schedule a tele health appointment, visit our patient portal or call 800-258-4448.
  • • PPLM’s free and confidential Counseling and Referral Hotline is still available to answer questions about sexual and reproductive health and connect patients with other services and providers. Hotline hours are posted here. The Hotline can be accessed by dialing 800-258-4448 Option #3.
All of PPLM services can be scheduled by dialing 1-800-258-4448.  PPLM will continue to expand the services it offers remotely and partner with other providers in order to maintain and improve access to high-quality, affordable sexual and reproductive health care during this pandemic. Please reach out to us if you have any further questions about accessing our care or referring patients to PPLM in this time, or if you would like to meet virtually to discuss .

From Open Sky Community Services:
In these days of social distancing, it’s fair to say that pretty much everyone is feeling a sense of isolation. This isolation, coupled with the very real and rational fears we’re all experiencing because of the COVID-19 pandemic is, in the words of Open Sky’s Chief Medical Officer Dr. Oliver Joseph, “wreaking havoc on us emotionally.”

A few of our clinical leaders came together (remotely!) to offer some evidence-based recommendations and tips to support the community through the current crisis. The result is a 6-part video series we’re calling “Coping during COVID.”    Here’s a link to the series. I hope you’ll find the videos helpful and feel free to share them:  https://www.openskycs.org/services/coping-during-covid.html

QCC has created a free Infection Control Certificate program that can be taken by anyone, it's free. They are asking me to get this out to healthcare or anyone who might have an interest.

The free infection Control certificate is open for registration. Here< https://trainnow.qcc.edu/modules/shop/index.html?action=section&OfferingID=236679&SectionID=236691 > is the link where people can register. Individuals will have access to the course for 30 days. Can you send this out to long-term care facilities, hospitals and any other organizations that might find it valuable?

This bring you to the QCC website, Workforce and it's very easy to access. Drew suggested I reach out to Jeff Turgeon and Karen Pelletier and Jennifer Safford. Jeff is going to use his contacts targeting the central and north central health care organizations. I'm waiting to hear back from Karen. We are trying to get this information out to as many people as possible letting them know we are here to help them during this difficult time.

Caregiver Homes from Seniorlink is the leading provider for Adult Foster Care (AFC) in MA. We credit this success in large part to our HIPAA secure platform, VELA , which provides a window into the home in addition to scheduled interactions such as home visits, phone calls, and regular doctors’ visits. This helps our partners identify events that impact our shared patients’ health- such as clinical gaps in care and social determinants of health- so together we can provide relevant, timely coaching to improve outcomes.
As a valued partner of Caregiver Homes, we would like to extend our support and resources during this trying time. For any shared patients we have with you please let us know how we can provide you with updates and align on continuity of care.
To explore more on what VELA can do for you and your patients, please let me know.

The focus over the next 3-6 months will be to fund immediate needs as well as any gaps that federal or state funding will not support. The focus will then shift to addressing long-term needs of organizations working with communities disproportionately impacted by the outbreak.

Please help us today, so that we can provide the safety net needed to help the most vulnerable in our community.
