The Pioneers volleyball team won its most recent game against Lee College, 3-0. WCJC next plays Blinn College at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27, at Gene Bahnsen Gymnasium.

AEL PROGRAM RECOGNIZED


Wharton County Junior College’s Adult Education and Literacy (AEL) program was recognized recently by the State of Texas for improving the educational opportunities of the surrounding community.

LOGAN MOORE NAMED

NATIONAL CHAMPION COWBOY


Wharton County Junior College cowboy Logan Moore of Pleasanton won the title of National Champion Heeler at this year's College National Finals Rodeo in Wyoming. Moore teamed up with Southwest Texas Junior College cowboy Slade Wood to capture the title. The pair placed first in Round 1 (4.8 seconds), fourth in Round 2 (5.2 seconds), eighth in Round 3 ( 6.3 seconds), second in the short round (6.5 seconds), and won the average with a combined time of 22.8 seconds on 4 head. They beat out the second place team by more than six seconds. Moore and Wood had earlier in the season taken the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA) Southern Region title.

Wharton County Junior College recently accepted the retirements of six employees. Retirees were presented with awards of appreciation as well as resolutions adopted by the WCJC Board of Trustees.

ASAT ANNUAL CONFERENCE

Wharton County Junior College will serve as the host site for the American Studies Association of Texas annual conference. The event is scheduled for Nov. 9 through Nov. 11 at the Wharton campus. Keynote speaker is Dr. Paul Spellman, former WCJC Instructor of History.
