On October 28th, the Windsor Essex County Cancer Centre Foundation, together with the University of Windsor, Windsor Regional Hospital and the Windsor Cancer Research Group held its 2nd annual  Seeds4Hope Community Seminar Series. The seminar showcases the cancer research supported by the local Windsor-Essex Seeds4Hope grants. This year's presenters were two of the 2010 grant recipients: Dr. Bulent Mutus and Dr. Caroline Hamm (co-presented by Dr. Lisa Porter). The audience was also treated to a panel discussion with fourteen of our local Seeds4Hope recipients. Thank you to our presenters and to all who attended!

Remembering Dr. Mordechay Schlesinger
On September 30th, Dr. Mordechay Schlesinger, (1931-2015) Professor Emeritus, Department of Physics, University of Windsor, passed away. Dr. Schlesinger had a long list of national and international accomplishments, one of which was a Seeds4Hope Grant awarded in 2013. the WCRG was fortunate to have him as part of our local cancer research community. He will be missed.

An appointment of Adjunct Professor status is a significant step towards building collaborative, multi-disciplinary, translational health research within the Windsor-Essex community. This status allows them to:
  • Become Primary Applicants on grant opportunities
  • Bring the patient and clinician perspective to research questions
  • Provide University of Windsor researchers with essential patient samples as well as clinical follow-up data
  • Utilize the services of the Office of Research and Innovation, University of Windsor
Research Clusters
 
Over the summer months, researchers responded to a WCRG survey focused on identifying local cancer-related research expertise. Based on the responses, we have established the following multi-disciplinary research clusters: 
Over the next few months, we will begin organizing these multi-disciplinary working groups to identify and stimulate collaborative cancer research projects. If you are interested in joining or would like more information about any of our WCRG research clusters, please contact WCRG. 
WCRG Peer Review Panel
 
This Fall WCRG introduced a Peer Review Panel, whose roles is to provide feedback to members on all cancer-related grant applications. Thank you to our Reviewers:

Members in the News
Krista Naccarato, Business Coordinator, Clinical Trials, Windsor Regional Hospital, and Executive Committee Member, WCRG, rappelled down Caesars' Augustus Tower in the 3rd annual Easter Seals Drop Zone event to raise much needed funds for kids in our community with physical disabilities.
