Our Spotlight on Rural Poster and Recruitment Fair will be held on Thursday, September 21st at the Medical College of Wisconsin-Central Wisconsin from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM.
Our Faculty Development Conference will be held on Friday, September 22nd at Northcentral Technical College in Wausau from 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM.

Substance Use Disorders Management Boot Camp | |
Join the UW Department of Family Medicine for a Substance Use Disorders Management Boot Camp conference this spring! This training aims to enhance confidence and competencies related to the management of substance use disorders in general medical settings. Through case-based and interactive didactic content, the workshop will explore issues related to assessment, monitoring, prevention, and management in the setting of unhealthy substance use.
What: Substance Use Disorders Management Boot Camp
Who: Intended for clinicians in primary care who wish to expand knowledge related to the medical management of opioid and alcohol use disorders

RWHC Monato Essay Prize for UW Students and Recent Graduates | |
RWHC is now taking submissions for their 31st Annual Monato Rural Essay!
The Hermes Monato, Jr. Prize of $2,500 is awarded annually for the best rural health paper. It is open to all students of the University of Wisconsin (any campus) as well as recent graduates (12 months before below deadline).
Students are encouraged to write on a rural health topic for a regular class and then to submit a copy to the Rural Wisconsin Health Cooperative as an entry by June 1st.

Students Given a Taste of Rural Medicine More Likely to Return
Medical school alumni who had trained in rural areas were almost twice as likely to set up their practices in a rural location, a new University of Washington School of Medicine study has found. The study was published this month in the Journal of the Association of American Medical Colleges. The researchers concluded that “educational programs are crucial public health interventions that can promote health equity through proper distribution of healthcare workers across rural regions of the U.S.”
