WCMEW Physician Work Group

After the workforce strategic plan was presented at the WCMEW Workforce Summit this past October, it is now time to take the the first action steps in the plan. Starting in 2023, WCMEW will be creating a "Education and Training Pathways – Physicians" workgroup that will focus on ways to increase investment in our education and training pathways involving physicians.

Wisconsin’s education and training infrastructure for physicians must be expanded and strengthened if we are to avoid a significant shortage of healthcare workers in the future. In 2023, this work group will start by broadening the coalition of healthcare workforce stakeholders.

The work group will be led by an individual (or several individuals) who will create agendas, lead discussions, and carry out the initiatives outlined above. George Quinn will serve as staff to the work group.

If you are interested in joining the group, click here for more information or contact George Quinn: [email protected]

New DHS Funding Opportunity

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services is pleased to announce the opening of the application period for two grant programs designed to increase health care-related workforce capacity in rural regions:

Advanced Practice Clinician (APC) Training Grants

The APC grants are designed to create and support new clinical training opportunities for physician assistants (PAs) and advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) in rural Wisconsin. APRNs include nurse practitioners, certified nurse-midwifes, clinical nurse specialists or certified registered nurse anesthetists. The goal of the grant is to expand the use of PAs and APRNs to increase access to health care in rural areas.

Allied Health Professional (AHP) Education and Training Grants

The AHP grants are for consortia between hospitals, clinics, health systems and educational providers to establish education and training programs for allied health professionals. The goal of the grant is to increase the availability of quality education and training opportunities for critical allied health positions in rural areas of the state.
