Our 2023 Faculty Development Conference/Spotlight on Rural Poster and Recruitment Fair is now scheduled!


Our Spotlight on Rural Poster and Recruitment Fair will be held on Thursday, September 21st at the Medical College of Wisconsin-Central Wisconsin from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM.


Our Faculty Development Conference will be held on Friday, September 22nd at Northcentral Technical College in Wausau from 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM.

Intended Audience:

Intended for physicians and residents. Medical students will be accepted if space allows.

Fee: 

$100 per participant (maximum 20 participants) Fee includes refreshments and lunch.

Cancellation fee: $25

All cancellations must be made in writing and no refunds within 96 hours of the activity.


All participants will engage in a mix of clinical procedures and didactic lectures that include:

  • Seizure, Magnesium Toxicity
  • Shoulder dystocia, PPH
  • Immediate PP LARC vs Breech extract
  • MEGA SIM, Trauma/ACLS, Skills Practice Time

DHS GME 2023 Program Development Grant Application Approvals

The Wis. Department of Health Services (DHS) issued its annual Graduate Medical Education (GME) Program Development Grant Request for Applications (RFA) on 3.1.2023. Several applications were received in response to the RFA. Three applications have now been approved by DHS. Applicants were notified of their approval on 6.2.2023. Grants are effective 7.1.2023, i.e., starting State Fiscal Year (SFY) 2024.   


  1. Aurora Healthcare: Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism Fellowship Program
  2. Gundersen Lutheran Medical Foundation Family Medicine Obstetrics Fellowship
  3. UW Department of Family Medicine and Community Health Rural Family Medicine Obstetrics (FMOB) Fellowship

DIVERSITY The Country Urologist: A Rewarding Career Serving an Underrepresented Population

Almost 20% of the U.S. population lives in a nonurban location, while only 10% of physicians practice in these areas. Access to a urologist in nonurban areas is even more scarce. Approximately 10% of U.S. urologists’ primary practice is in nonurban areas.


The American doctor deserts: The doctor shortage is already here, but there’s a way to fix it.

Addressing Health Disparities Through Rural Training

Rural communities comprise an important part of Wisconsin’s culture, history, and economy. However, due to social inequities and decreased access to health care, individuals who live in rural Wisconsin disproportionately experience negative health outcomes, leading to higher overall rates of morbidity and mortality. 

Rural GME Coordinator Leadership Institute Kickoff

On April 5, 2023 we held the in-person kick-off for the Rural GME Coordinator Leadership Institute! It was so fun to host this at The RTT Collaborative Annual Meeting in Missoula, MT! This robust one-year program is designed around a curriculum to support rurally-focused coordinator leadership and professional development. The current institute will be held until April, 2024.
