2023 Spotlight on Poster Fair Winners

27 Posters were presented on September 21, 2023. Attendees were asked to vote for the top 3 posters.  Congratulations to our top 3!

1st Place:  Cascade Screening for Familial Hypercholesterolemia in Pediatrics by Morgan Lentz, UW School of Medicine and Public Health

2023 Rural Champion

During the 2023 Spotlight on Rural Poster/Recruitment Fair, Dr. Rob Gouthro was awarded our third Rural Champion.


A rural champion demonstrates unwavering commitment to rural medicine training and practice in Wisconsin, and is dedicated to educating others about the importance of growing rural medicine in our communities.

Mercyhealth Family Medicine Residency–Lake Geneva Program Video

On October 18th, we filmed a program video for the new Mercyhealth Family Medicine Residency–Lake Geneva! It was great to meet the programs first two residents, Farah Shaukat, MD and Masa Kinoshita, MD.

Rural GME Coordinator Leadership Institute - Save the Dates!

The dates and tentative agenda have been released for the second series of the Rural GME Coordinator Leadership Institute!


Dates: April, 2024 – February, 2025


Program Description:

Robust one-year curriculum to support rurally-focused coordinator leadership and professional development. Ideal applicants have been in GME a minimum of 3 years or have equivalent experience.

New Hospitalist Fellowship at Aspirus Wausau

Title:

Aspirus Hospital Medicine Fellowship

 

Fellowship type:

Location:

Based at Aspirus Wausau Hospital in Wausau, Wisconsin. 

Some rotations will occur at other sites in the Aspirus network. This fellowship will also include rural hospital experiences.

Status: 

2 fellows at a time, fellows may start off cycle if there is an open position

 

Duration:

12 months 

Program start date: flexible


Clinical duties:

The fellowship is in adult inpatient medicine without pediatrics or OB. The first 9 months will be in specialty rotations 5 days per week. The final 3 months working as a supervised hospitalist 7 on, 7 off. Rotations will be at multiple hospitals within the Aspirus System with a housing stipend available. 

Additional requirements:

SHM membership is required and is paid for by the program


Attending SHM's annual "Converge" conference is required, and is paid for by the program


POCUS training is required. Fellows will attend CHEST's course "Ultrasonography: essentials in Critical Care. This is paid for by the program.

 

Salary and Benefits:

$90,000 base salary


The insurance and retirement benefits will match that of an attending Hospitalist in the program


Additional moonlighting for a full hospitalist wage is available and encouraged outside of rotation time.


A $200,000 Hospitalist Fellowship Support Stipend paid out during the one-year Hospitalist Fellowship is available for Fellows with student loan debt who are willing to make a multi-year commitment to Aspirus’ Hospitalist Service.

Rural Health Day Community Hero: Ryan Spencer

Ryan Spencer, MD, FACOG was awarded a Rural Health Day Community Hero by the Wisconsin Office of Rural Health. Kevin Jacobson shared “Dr. Spencer is an example of a provider who goes the extra mile to bring about change in rural community’s health. On behalf of the Wisconsin Office of Rural Health I want to present this certificate recognizing Dr. Ryan Spencer as a Rural Health Day Community Hero.”
