-  An updated " Resources for Westport Residents Affected by COVID-19" document prepared by the Department of Human Services, can be found  here.  This document provides valuable information and updates on available resources, food services, including senior hours and pick-up and delivery options at local markets, AARP, and VITA on-line free Tax Prep Assistance, financial assistance, and more.

Tech Help Returns With Owen Spangler!
Owen is a Staples graduate and currently a student at UCONN. He will be available for one-on-one tech help assistance. With your permission, Owen can remotely access your computer to help resolve the issue you are having.  Owen will be available this Monday, June 15 at 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. and 10:15 to 11:15 a.m.  Going forward he will be available only on TUESDAYS at the same times starting on June 23.  Please call 203-341-5099 to make an appointment.  Appointments must be made by the previous Friday at 2 p.m.  Please look for future dates for Owen in upcoming newsletters. 
Documentaries - The WCSA offers free documentary films every week.  We know many of you look forward to those films, so we are posting links for these documentaries here each week.   The June 15 documentary is: "Attenborough & the Empire of the Ants."  Acclaimed natural historian David Attenborough brings his trademark infectious enthusiasm to "Attenborough and the Empire of the Ants," an hour-long exploration into the secret lives of what many wrongfully dismiss as pesky irritants.  (59 min.)    To view this week's documentary, please click here.
SWCAA Caregiver Support Group on Zoom!
The Southwestern CT Agency on Aging (SWCAA) is sponsoring a caregiver support group. The group will meet twice a month on Zoom. Terry Giegengack, MA, from Positive Directions will be facilitating the support group. Terry's professional experiences include casework and administrative positions, both in Westport and Fairfield's Departments of Human Services.  She took social work courses at the Fordham School of Social Services and graduated from Fairfield University with a Masters in Counseling.

Mindful Healing: Find Peace in the Storm -
Dr. Paul Epstein is extending his discussion and meditation hour to meet every Thursday.  Learn how to face and transform stress, pain and illness, manage anxiety and be comfortable with uncertainty. Cultivate resilience to respond to life's challenges with wisdom, humor, compassion and a positive attitude. Connect with and develop inner resources and learn practical skills to work with and process difficult emotions of fear, grief and anger. Learn mindfulness meditation as we train the mind and open the heart to awaken joy, develop equanimity, and deepen loving kindness and compassion.  Bring mindfulness and heartfulness into daily life for peace, health and happiness.  The best of times is now.  The class will combine discussion, sharing, Q&A and guided meditation practice.  You are encouraged to practice and live the teachings 24/7.  A forty-year pioneer in mind-body integrative medicine, Dr. Epstein is a naturopathic physician, mindfulness meditation teacher and mind-body therapist in Westport. 
Dr. Epstein's sessions will take place every Thursday from 11:00 a.m. to Noon. via Zoom.  The cost is free.  Please note you may join this series at any time but pre-registration is required.  Please call 203-341-5099 to register.

Exercise with Patty Kondub on TV Channel 79!
Patty Kondub will be conducting a fun exercise class on the Westport Public Access Channel 79.   Join Patty for a workout to music with chair and standing exercises, balance, brain building, memory games and posture exercises.   Weights or cans and a pillow may be required.  Patty is the girls golf coach at Staples High School and teaches water aerobics at the Westport YMCA.  Every Friday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.  Cost: No charge.  Note: Westport Public TV Access Channel 79 broadcasts to Westport households only.

AARP Cancels All In-Person Activities Through the End of 2020, Including AARP Smart Driver Safety Classes -
AARP has made the difficult decision to cancel all in-person events and activities through the end of 2020, which includes AARP Smart Driver Safety classes, to minimize COVID-19 exposure among our AARP family and our communities.
However, the AARP is making their four-hour Smart Driver Course available on line. They are offering a 25% discount until December 31, 2020 by using the promo code DRIVINGSKILLS.  The cost is $14.96 for members and $18.71  for non-members with the $25% discount, but you must use the promo code for the additional discount.  Once you begin the class you will have 30 days to complete it.  For more information and to register for the AARP on line class, please click  here.
The Westport Department of Human Services Announces Free Virtual Tax Preparation -  VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) is going virtual providing free tax preparation without in-person contact. The virtual platform now available to tax payers connects filers with an off-site tax counselor.  These volunteer tax counselors are the same group of IRS-Certified Tax Preparers that have provided these services at the WCSA and at Westport Town Hall for many years.   For more information and how to file, please click  here.
Sustainable Westport Zero Food Waste Challenge - The Sustainable Westport Zero Food Waste Challenge is alive and well!  The initiative encourages Westporters to get to know the food we waste, minimize food waste by planning and preparing meals and preserving food effectively,  and composting food scraps.  They are hosting an Environmental Learning Webinar Series this month.  For more information on the Zero Food Waste Challenge and to register for these webinars, please click  here.  To view their flyer on Food Scrap Recycling, please click  here.

To stop the spread of Coronavirus, health and government officials are requiring social distancing to reduce the chance of contact with those knowingly or unknowingly carrying the infection.
