Thursday, March 12: Cinema Worcester at the Frontroom Presents “Coexistence, My Ass!”

Cinema Worcester in conjunction with the WCUW Frontroom presents “Coexistence, My Ass”, directed by Amber Fares.

Coexistence, My Ass! follows Israeli activist-comedian Noam Shuster Eliassi as she creates a comedy show by the same name. Shot over five tumultuous years, the film traces Noam’s personal, professional, and political journey in tandem with the region’s steady deterioration.

Raised in a bilingual Israeli-Palestinian village — the only intentionally integrated community in the country — Noam grows disillusioned with traditional peace activism. She pivots to stand-up and quickly attracts attention across the Middle East.

But as her star rises, everything around her falls apart. With biting satire, Noam pushes her audiences to face difficult truths that aren’t always funny but do remind us that another reality is possible.

“Eliassi and “Coexistence, My Ass!” do the impossible and deliver radical ideas through humor. Rarely has comedy felt this serious and urgent.” – Variety

Run time is 1 hour and 39 minutes. NR.

Showtime: Thursday, March 12, 7 pm.

Tickets at the door: $12 general admission, $10 senior/student with ID, $9 for WCUW members.

The WCUW Frontroom is located at 910 Main St., Worcester MA. Parking in the Clark University lot across the street, or on the street.

Friday, March 13, thru Saturday, March 15: Cinema Worcester at the Frontroom Presents “Come See Me in the Good Light”

Cinema Worcester in conjunction with the WCUW Frontroom presents “Come See Me in the Good Light”, a film by Ryan White.

Poets and partners Andrea Gibson and Megan Falley face the former’s terminal cancer diagnosis with laughter, love, and an invitation to share in their grace, in director Ryan White’s beautiful new documentary. Gibson, Colorado’s poet laureate and a veritable rockstar, faces the diagnosis with humility and humor. Using Gibson’s poetry throughout, White crafts a remarkable and life-affirming documentary that won the Festival Favorite Award at Sundance.

With incredible access to Gibson’s life in this trying time, the film shares the ups and downs as they battle ovarian cancer, as they write their powerful poetry (and recite it), and as Andrea and Meg laugh and love and deepen their relationship every day. A project buoyed by incredible talent including Tig Notaro and Brandi Carlile, Come See Me in the Good Light invites fans and viewers on Gibson’s heartbreaking and determined journey back to the stage.

“the filmmaker’s warmth and humor, even in times of despair, gives the story a radiance that makes mundane moments feel precious” – NPR

“Come See Me in the Good Light” is certainly Gibson’s story, but even more so, a documentary of two poets in love. Not running to or from grief, but living deeply and feeling their way through every ebb and flow, creating a desired path in the face of helplessness.” – Peyton Robinson, RogerEbert.com

Run time is 1 hour and 44 minutes. NR.

Showtimes: Friday, March 13, 7 pm; Saturday March 14, 1 pm; and Sunday, March 15, 1 pm.

Tickets at the door: $12 general admission, $10 senior/student with ID, $9 for WCUW members.

Sunday, March 15: The Combination at the Frontroom

An evening of jazz from “the combination”, live in our intimate listening and performance space.

Nicole Sutka is on flute and vocals, Josh Guerraz on acoustic guitar, and Josh Oltman on bass. The group is ever changing based on Nicole’s musical interests and inspiration.

On this occasion, the focus is on the music that found it’s popularity on jukeboxes, the pop music of our grandparents with unexpected jazz gems.

This performance is a special opportunity to be transported back in time where swing music was ‘it’ and dancehalls were packed.

Showtime: Sunday, March 15, 5 pm. Doors open at 4:30. Tickets $20 cash or Venmo at the door.

Light refreshments will be served. Or, visit Fantastic Pizza/Grub Guru next door for pizza, Indian food, and more, to eat-in or to bring back.

The WCUW Frontroom is located at 910 Main St., Worcester MA. Parking in the Clark University lot across the street, or on the street.
