Saturday, April 18: Troy Mercy at the Frontroom – Early Album Release Party!

Album cover: Let The Night Begin

Winner of the 2024/25 Boston Blues Challenge: Troy Mercy returns to the WCUW Frontroom, for an early release party for his new album.

Let The Night Begin is the debut solo album from Troy Mercy, former Booker T. Jones and Fabulous Thunderbirds guitarist. It features Mercy’s live drummer Harrison Foti, along with Tim Carman on four tracks. Bass is played by Marty Ballou (Peter Wolf, Danny Kortchmar, John Hammond, Jr.). Tim Carman (Parlor Greens, Canyon Lights, formerly of GA-20) produced this earthy and laterally-minded collection Mercy calls “Brave New Blues for a Mean Old World”.

Troy Mercy is a guitarist’s guitarist but, says Mercy, “None of that guitar stuff is worth a damn if it has to live in lame songs. To me the songwriting comes first, then the singing has to be there to tell that emotional story for the listener. [This album] has a blend of some heavy riffs with more psychedelic imagery and eerier, more desert-blues vibes at times.”

The session was recorded live through vintage mics and glowing tubes. Dave Westner’s wood-fire-stove-heated family cabin on a pond in autumnal Plymouth, Mass was the scenery for this two day Rock & Roll party.

Showtime: Saturday, April 18, 7:00 pm. Doors open at 6:30 pm. Tickets $20 cash or Venmo at the door.

Light refreshments will be served. Or, visit Fantastic Pizza/Grub Guru next door for pizza, Indian food, and more, to eat-in or to bring back.

The WCUW Frontroom is located at 910 Main St., Worcester MA. Parking in the Clark University lot across the street, or on the street.

Saturday, April 11: We and the Dawg with Johnny Blue Horn at the Frontroom

We and the Dawg delivers Funk-tastic soul and R&B from the 70’s to today with non-stop fun, funk and dance grooves!

With vocalist Bruce Reed, formally of Big Dawg and Tornado Alley, Johnny Blue Horn on trumpet, Bill MacGillivray on drums, Dan Hunt on guitar, Jim Heffernan on keys, Ririka Masuda on sax, and Gail Hunt on bass.

Showtime: Saturday, April 11, 7 pm. Doors open at 6:30.
