Now thru Saturday, Aug. 29: Creativity Over Silence
The Harold Stevens Gallery presents “Creativity Over Silence”, curated by Cate Smith and Allissa Williams.
The exhibition asks artists to respond to the events of the last year and a half through their own artistic vision. Photographers, sculptors, ceramic artists, painters, video artists, and mixed media artists are coming together to address their reactions to our confusing and often angering times. Artists have the capacity to generate new ideas, illuminate where differences and joint passions lie, and reveal truths ignored by mainstream media. By bringing together these artists and their works, the show seeks to open up a dialogue between artists and between artists and their audiences.
Participating artists: Frank Armstrong, Bayda Asbridge, Heather Barros, Ricardo Barros, Lisa Barthelson, Scott Boilard, Jennifer Carey, Trish Dehls, Louie Despres, Alice Dillion, Stephen DiRado, Skye Donaldson, Claudio Eshun, Antonio Fonseca, Frances Jakubek, Patti Kelly, James Maurelle, Victor Pacheco, Toby Sisson, Sandrine Sheon, Hoang Truong, Jill Watts, Allissa Williams, Matt Wright, Liang Yuan.
Gallery hours: Mondays noon to 3 pm; Wednesdays 2 to 4 pm; Thursdays 11 am to 3 pm; Fridays 11 am to 4 pm; Saturdays 8:30 am to 12:30 pm; or by appointment. Free to all!
A talk on Saturday, July 25, 10:30 am to 12 pm, will bring together artists Bayda Asbridge, Jennifer Carey, Hoang Truong, and Liang Yuan to talk about their personal experiences with oppression and privilege, followed by questions from the audience and a discussion.
The Gallery is accepting donations for Food Not Bombs Worcester of toothbrushes, toothpaste, travel soap/shampoo, baby wipes, granola/protein bars, and gloves.
The Harold Stevens Gallery is located inside WCUW, 910 Main Street, Worcester, MA. Parking in the Clark University lot across the street, or on the street.
Listen to Gail Hunt, host of Art on the Air, talk with the artists, Cate Smith and Allissa Williams. Originally aired June 11, 2026.

Sarah Huber to perform on the Friday afternoon Music Mix hosted by Dave C.
It's been over a year now that I've been a DJ at the WCUW radio station, broadcasting a 2-hour show every 2nd Friday of each month. So far, all of my shows have revolved around a curated setlist built around a particular theme.
For July, I'm going out on a limb and trying something new -- having an artist come into the studio for a live interview and performance that will go out over the airwaves (and internet) in real time. This is both exciting and a bit terrifying to hear. But I'm going to take the plunge and start things off with one of my favorite local singer/songwriters..... Sarah Huber, who also goes by the name of Seraphine.
I hope you can tune in to 91.3 FM this Friday (the 10th) or catch the live stream on wcuw.org from 2 to 4 pm as I chat with Sarah about her new album and give her a chance to play some of her songs for you live from the studio.

What is the FrontRoom?
The WCUW FrontRoom is a community-run performance venue and event space located inside the WCUW 91.3 FM radio station at 910 Main Street in Worcester, Massachusetts. It is designed as an intimate, “living room” style space for local arts and community gatherings of up to 75 people.
Here is what makes it unique:
1. A hub for independent cinema
The FrontRoom serves as the screening room for Cinema Worcester. It functions as a cozy micro-cinema showing:
• Independent and foreign films.
• Documentaries and cult classics.
• The annual Oscar-nominated shorts.
2. Live performances and events
Beyond movies, the space is a versatile community cultural center. It regularly hosts:
• Live music: Acoustic sets, jazz, blues, and more.
• Art display: The walls of the FrontRoom feature Rose LeBeau’s rock icon paintings from an exhibit that was held in the station’s Harold Stevens Gallery.
3. Community “Living Room”
True to its community radio roots, the FrontRoom is available for private rentals and public use. WCUW promotes it as a space for:
• Birthday parties, celebrations of life, and fundraisers.

Thursday, July 16: Cinema Worcester at the FrontRoom Presents “Summer Camp Nightmare”
Cinema Worcester in conjunction with the WCUW FrontRoom presents “Summer Camp Nightmare”, a film by Bert L. Dragin.
This July, Cinema Worcester and Nuclear Eye Fanzine are teaming up once again to bring you a weekend of fun and fright with the summer camp film series Camp Crystal Pond!
The well of summer camp movies is deep, and we’ve chosen a diverse mix of genre-spanning films from the 1980’s, when summer camp films ruled the screens. From an edgy teen drama, to a camp slasher classic, and a family-friendly juvenile delinquent comedy, there’s something for everyone at Camp Crystal Pond!
Our weekend begins with Summer Camp Nightmare, where at Camp North Pines, a seemingly normal summer of camp antics takes a hard turn into a violent revolution led by a sociopathic teenage counselor after the camp director is accused of molesting one of the young campers. With its punk-fueled script by Penelope Spheeris and an assembly of some of camp cinema’s most memorable characters, this special VHS presentation of a rarely seen gem is one not to be missed!
Run time is 1 hour and 30 minutes. PG-13 (sexual suggestiveness | mild violence/disturbing themes).
Showtimes: Thursday, July 16, 7 pm.
Save money with a pass for all three films in this Camp Crystal Pond series: Purchase your three-film pass online: $23.18 general admission (processing fees included).
Purchase individual tickets online: $10.38 general admission (processing fees included).
Tickets at the door: $8 general admission.
The WCUW FrontRoom is located at 910 Main St., Worcester, MA. Parking in the Clark University lot across the street, or on the street.

Saturday, July 25: Kerri Powers at the FrontRoom
It isn’t surprising that Kerri Powers landed the #1 spot on the Roots Music Report’s “Top 50 Folk Albums of 2014” with zero publicity. She has charted on the Folk Music Radio and RMR charts.
Over the years, Kerri has appeared at numerous prestigious venues and musical gatherings, including The Boston Folk Festival, The Philadelphia Folk Festival, Falcon Ridge Folk Festival, and Telluride Bluegrass Festival. She has toured throughout the United States and overseas. Her songs have been in movies and TV series.
With ‘Love is Why,’ Powers’ latest self-penned full-length album, the New England-based artist explores the universal emotion of love and its huge influence on our decisions. In particular, she examines love in the context of holding on or letting go through human loss and grieving. The album’s original songs were written during the pandemic and after Powers lost her father, whom she calls “my best friend.”
The album, recorded at Dagotown Recorders in Boston, includes musical luminaries Bo Ramsey, Luther Dickinson, Kelvin Holly, Doug Lancio, John Putnam, Regina and Anne McCrary, Brother Paul Brown, Marty Ballou, Charles Giordano, and Asa Brosius. Singer-songwriter Paul Thorn, on duet vocals, sings a transcendent cover of Gregg Allman’s “Please Call Home.”
When you catch Kerri Powers on stage, you will immediately feel the realness and rawness of her artistry. She delivers art at its purest, a musical canvas painted with soulful colors and emotion that will pull you into her songs and her message of love.
“I don’t know where this young lady came from, but it’s got to be a secret place. This is not the kind of singing, writing, and performing that can be easily taught. It has to be in your spirit, in your blood, and the fact that she is from the Northeast is going to confound the artists down South, in the Delta, in Memphis, Clarksdale, Austin, and Nashville.” – John Apice, No Depression
Showtime: Saturday, July 25, 7 pm. Doors open at 6:30. Advance tickets are now available on Eventbrite for $23.18 (including a $3.18 processing fee). Get them while they last! Light refreshments will be served.
The WCUW FrontRoom is located at 910 Main St., Worcester, MA. Parking in the Clark University lot across the street or on the street.
