For Worcester County

Sunday, June 14, thru Saturday, August 29: Creativity Over Silence

The Harold Stevens Gallery presents “Creativity Over Silence”, curated by Cate Smith and Allissa Williams.

The exhibition asks artists to respond to the events of the last year and a half through their own artistic vision. Photographers, sculptors, ceramic artists, painters, video artists, and mixed media artists are coming together to address their reactions to our confusing and often angering times. Artists have the capacity to generate new ideas, illuminate where differences and joint passions lie, and reveal truths ignored by mainstream media. By bringing together these artists and their works, the show seeks to open up a dialogue between artists and between artists and their audiences.

Participating artists: Frank Armstrong, Bayda Asbridge, Heather Barros, Ricardo Barros, Lisa Barthelson, Scott Boilard, Jennifer Carey, Trish Dehls, Louie Despres, Alice Dillion, Stephen DiRado, Skye Donaldson, Claudio Eshun, Antonio Fonseca, Frances Jakubek, Patti Kelly, James Maurelle, Victor Pacheco, Toby Sisson, Sandrine Sheon, Hoang Truong, Jill Watts, Allissa Williams, Matt Wright, Liang Yuan.

Opening reception: Sunday, June 14, 5 to 7 pm.

Gallery hours: Mondays noon to 3 pm; Wednesdays 2 to 4 pm; Thursdays 11 am to 3 pm; Fridays 11 am to 4 pm; Saturdays 8:30 am to 12:30 pm; or by appointment. Free to all!

A talk on Saturday, July 25, 10:30 am to 12 pm, will bring together artists Bayda Asbridge, Jennifer Carey, Hoang Truong, and Liang Yuan to talk about their personal experiences with oppression and privilege, followed by questions from the audience and a discussion.

The Gallery is accepting donations for Food Not Bombs Worcester of toothbrushes, toothpaste, travel soap/shampoo, baby wipes, granola/protein bars, and gloves.

The Harold Stevens Gallery is located inside WCUW, 910 Main Street, Worcester, MA. Parking in the Clark University lot across the street, or on the street.

Listen to Gail Hunt, host of Art on the Air, talk with the artists, Cate Smith and Allissa Williams. Originally aired June 11, 2026.

Blues…it’s a universal solvent in music. There’s blues in jazz, R & B, roots rock and soul, country, Cajun, Latin, funk, hip-hop, rock and pop… It’s everywhere! We’ll hear from all corners of the musical map including Bessie Smith, Buddy Guy, Freddy Fender and Clifton Chenier and more. Then, an hour with octogenarian electric country blues man Little Freddie King live from Marigny Studios in New Orleans.

Thursday, June 11, thru Sunday, June 14: Cinema Worcester at the Frontroom Presents “Omaha”

Cinema Worcester in conjunction with the WCUW Frontroom presents “Omaha”, a film by Cole Webley.

A father suddenly packs his two young children and a golden retriever into his car and takes off for a road trip across the American West, leaving the house and all but a handful of his family’s possessions behind.

The specific reason for the trip is a closely guarded secret, driving the emotional weight of the narrative until it is revealed in the devastating final frames of the film.

A poignant, coming-of-age drama starring John Magaro (Past Lives, September 5). A Sundance Film Festival premiere.

“John Magaro is touching and vital in a wrenching family drama that speaks to what’s broken about family in America.” – Peter Travers

“Tenderly devastating.” – Variety

Run time is 1 hour and 23 minutes. PG-13 (thematic material).

Showtimes: Thursday, June 11, 7 pm; Friday, June 12, 7 pm; Saturday, June 13, 1 pm; and Sunday, June 14, 1 pm.

Purchase tickets online: $14.64 general admission, $12.51 senior/student with ID, $11.44 for WCUW members (processing fees included).

Tickets at the door: $12 general admission, $10 senior/student with ID, $9 for WCUW members.

Saturday, June 20: Sugar Ray and the Bluetones at the Frontroom

WCUW is so excited to have Sugar Ray Norcia and the Bluetones return to the FrontRoom!

They have been playing their unique style of blues the world over for almost forty years. Not limited to one style, but able to play Chicago Blues in the style of Muddy Waters, Little Walter and Billy Boy Arnold; Kansas City Swing in the style of “Big” Joe Turner; Texas Blues like “T” Bone Walker and Freddie King; and the swampy Louisiana sounds of “Lazy” Lester – all played with distinctive originality.

All of the members of Sugar Ray and the Bluetones have been featured on other artists recordings which include Roomful of Blues, Hubert Sumlin, John Hammond, Johnny Winter, J.Geils, Otis Grand, Pinetop Perkins, The Mannish Boys, Sugaray Rayford, Debbie Davies, Duke Robillard, Ronnie Earl and many more.

“Sugar Ray is the real deal. There is nobody better to represent this music.” Kim Wilson, The Fabulous Thunderbirds

“Sugar Ray has great tone and phrasing, singing ad playing the harp. One of my favorites.” Charlie Musslewhite
