Thursday, April 30, thru Saturday, May 2: Cinema Worcester at the Frontroom Presents “The Christophers”

Cinema Worcester in conjunction with the WCUW Frontroom presents “The Christophers”, a film by Steven Soderbergh.

Desperate for an inheritance, two siblings conspire to forge their father’s unfinished paintings so they become valuable after his death.

Having all but given up her own art practice, thirtysomething Lori (I May Destroy You’s Michaela Coel) divides her time between freelance art restoration and working the window of a food truck.

Her fortunes promise to change, however, when she’s approached by the estranged heirs (Jessica Gunning and James Corden) of renowned painter Julian Sklar (McKellen) with a tantalizing proposition: Lori is to apprehend a series of long-abandoned paintings from Sklar’s London home, complete the paintings using her masterful imitation skills, and receive a third of the profits from the sale of the paintings following the old man’s imminent death.

Lori accepts the gig, infiltrating Sklar’s home under the pretense of becoming his new assistant, but the ruse quickly goes awry in a series of titillating twists and shifting allegiances.

“The Christophers is one of Soderbergh’s most delicious entertainments in years.” – Cameron Bailey,

Toronto Internation Film Festival

“The Christophers is a charming and challenging tennis match between two opposing acting styles, one of them confident with the certainty of youth and the other with the mastery of old age.” – Ty Burr

Run time is 1 hour 40 minutes. R (language).

Showtimes: Thursday, April 30, 7 pm; Friday, May 1, 7 pm; and Saturday, May 2, 1 pm.

AMERICAN ROUTES airs Thursdays 7 PM to 9 PM

Compared to What?

We asked our listeners to help pick music and musicians that deal with the troubles we’re facing, and we added a few songs and singers that fit the mood as best we could, including the Staple Singers, Allen Toussaint, Woody Guthrie, Toots and the Maytals, Son Volt, Carole King, John Coltrane, Los Super Seven, Dr. John, and Tom Waits. So we’re just trying to make it real, and the big question remains: Compared to What?

Saturday, May 2: The Kennedys at the Frontroom

Think of a song by Buddy Holly, the Everly Brothers or the Beatles… and that smile on your face is the same smile you’ll be wearing when The Kennedys hit the stage!

The Kennedys are vocalists/guitarists Pete and Maura Kennedy. A husband and wife duo, they set out on the road together in the early 90s as members of Nanci Griffith’s Blue Moon Orchestra.

Since striking out on their own, they have traveled the US, Canada and Europe for three decades as a two-person band. Higher energy than a folk act, but not as loud as a rock band, they mix passionate songwriting with a flair for entertainment and a repertoire of classic songs drawn from their sixteen albums of uplifting original material.

Showtime: Saturday, May 2, 7 pm. Doors open at 6:30. Tickets $20 cash or Venmo at the door.

Light refreshments will be served. Or, visit Fantastic Pizza/Grub Guru next door for pizza, Indian food, and more, to eat-in or to bring back.

The WCUW Frontroom is located at 910 Main St., Worcester MA. Parking in the Clark University lot across the street, or on the street.

Radio Waves: WCUW Makes Some Key Leadership Changes as Station Changes

Christine Hochkeppel/Telegram & Gazette File Photo

(from Worcester Magazine, Jan 14, 2026)

There have been some key staff changes behind the dial at WCUW Community Radio 91.3 FM as 2026 gets underway, including longtime executive director Troy Tyree transitioning to a new role as part-time programming director for the radio station.

“Troy has given his heart and soul to WCUW for more than 15 years as its only paid staff member,” WCUW said in a statement to the Telegram & Gazette.

Now there are three paid part-time staff. Joining Tyree are Steve Blake, who has volunteered at WCUW for many years, as general manager, and Laura Lenis as WCUW’s membership consultant.

Scott Hayman, clerk of the WCUW board of directors, said “the board credits Troy with shepherding WCUW through many of its lean times, especially COVID, and for his vision for the now very successful FrontRoom, a venue for weekly live music and Cinema Worcester … while managing all the station’s broadcasting and administration, Troy worked tirelessly to keep the 910 Main Street facility in shape on a shoestring budget.”
